Once again, lots of place names, voyage and route planning, intended destinations would be so much more interesting with some visual aids such as charts, photos etc.. Like another viewer's comments, "just saying" !!! Fair sailing, SkipRay

Great vid, enjoyed it. As i have said before I have recently bought a Halmatic 30, was wondering if you have any tips for reversing her in and around marinas, these long keelers seem to have a mind of their own in reverse. Thanks and keep up with the great videos.

Hi Warren, thanks! Yes, a mind of their own for sure. My general tactic for marinas is to always go in bow first, and when coming out, i walk her out of the berth and get on at the last minute, it doesn't look very elegant especially single handed, but it works. Mine kicks to starboard fairly hard when I go astern, and doesn't pay any heed to which way the tiller is pointing. I can use this to turn the bow to stop her hitting something to port, but need to fend off if there's something to starboard. I can also use this kick to turn her by pulsing back and forward with the tiller hard to port (as though turning starboard going forward) i used to jam the tiller to starboard while pulsing astern but it makes no difference. Any cross wind at all and all bets are off. Usually with the pulsing trick i can get out of most situations without help, it just looks extremely comical for passersby. Cross current in addition to cross wind and i need help getting her out of a berth. Hope this helps! Your mileage may vary on which way and how hard she kicks when going astern, mines been reengined with a beta marine 25HP

Just to add, if I want to go straight astern, revving gently astern before building up slowly to speed reduces the kick dramatically, and she'll probably go straight astern in the absence of wind or current.

@@SoloSailingSapphira you describe my difficulties to a tee, it is obviously a halmatic thing.. lol I have thought about running a line from the cockpit to the bow and back to a stern cleat on the pontoon to hold the bow in as I reverse but all theory at this point, lol. If I manage to work it out and make a video of it I will tag you. thanks again for the videos and looking forward to your future trips. cheers

Was it Sinead’s cooking skills that prompted the change of crew? 😂

It seems every sailer on KZread has bin struggling with unpredictable weather patterns this year, my self included. However I just doing coastal cruiseing in Norway so it haven't been a problem, but plening has been difficult. It seams you have enjoyed nice weather in your waiting for wind periods. Best regards from Jarle

Yeah it's been a bit of a pain over the past while, hopefully now the more typical patterns will kick in again. Hope you had a good summer sailing

You had a guest,,,and Shin Aid is still with you,,,happy days. Dont forget,,when you play my song upon her departure,,there are no royalties involved. Word of warning,,,Porto,,,Its a bit like Galway,,,thinks its special,,,Porto is just about passable,,,they over hype the place. You mentioned Peniche as penichay,,,its simple Peniche,,,as in niche. Cascais is a lovely little seaside town,,ten minutes walk from your house will get you into the thick of it. When you go to eat try avoid the tourist spots. Ask Billy or Ivor to show you real local Portuguese places where real folk eat. Dorada is their best fish meal,,,avaoid baccalhau,,,the fish is not filleted,,,bones all over the shop. Ivor has a small Irish bar....Billy hangs out everywheremmthe look of him is like you,,,fekkin Irish. Gbye,,,,,ps,,,in summer it rains everyday in Peniche. Nice place,,,good food

Further,,let me add,,,Cascais,,,,has a 40 minute train link to Lisbon return ticket might be 6 or 7 euro. The lisbon station name is Cais do Sodre (cash du sodray),,,,,,it has a metro station combined and a ferry port . Avoid the Oirish bars in Lisboa,,,they are owed by a creep in my opinion, and very expensive. Walk lisboa,,,avoid tourists.Only cross main streets at lights,,,drivers in Lisboa are a dangerous lot and downtown speed limits are off the scale. In Cascais dont be tempted to go to a tourist trap called Sintra,,,its a big hassle,,,buses etc and hawkers trying to get ur money,,,Sintra is over rated and a pig with lipstick. Under no circumstances should you drink red or white J and P JP WINE,,,ITS LIKE CHEMICAL ALLIE from Baghdad. Monte Velho is good,,,if it very hot rest and cafe often offer red wine from the fridge,,,go for ,,its cool,,,I only drink red from my fridge. If you want a bottle of wine to take to your floating house,,,spend 20 quid on a bott of Jaoa Ramus do Portugala. gbye,,,walk Lisboa,,,sometimes around every corner is another downtown. In Lisboa you will be contributing to its downfall,,the city is destroyed because of too many tourists,,,people like you,,,lol,,,gbye again,. no reply,,I know you are busy.
