VIGIL LAMP - the light of life
This documentary follows the life of Hannele and Ville Maahinen and their son, Valo in Central Finland for almost one full year. Hannele and Ville are both artisans. In the documentary they are finishing an Orthodox tšasouna they have built on their own yard. Ville is concentrating on the vigil lamp, which symbolizes prayer. The Maahinens couple are openly sharing their life. They talk about their values: beauty, love, self-sufficiency and their interest in the Middle Ages. Also music is an important element in their household.
The film won the series of documentary films 2017 at the National Film Festival and was chosen as the best film for the entire festival. The film has also been shown at film festivals in Germany, Hungary and Estonia.

This is the most beautiful thing I have seen all day. I was received into the church this Pascha, and beauty was one of the things that brought me in.

What a beautiful video. I admire the Maahinens pure, simple life. My grandparents emigrated from near Kuortane, Finland to the U.S. and I am currently converting to the Orthodox church, so this speaks to me.
