I was never in the military, but I had a lot of military friends that played Magic The Gathering. The thing is, on deployment they didn't always have internet access, so hobbies like card games and consoles with good local co-op were very popular.

Yup, Military and Prison folks play a lot of DnD, and anything else they could get their hands on. Card games like Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh would be right up their ally for sure, though the naval boys might have trouble getting new cards while underway, since they would have to get those shipped in via mail. This is why DnD is popular, you don't really need much besides the dices and rulebook, maybe a few maps.

Sakana is definitely one of my favorite, along with Yagoo.

I am a never served, but I have seen some fantastic stories from the military, like the dudes in Desert Storm playing warhammer 40k on some cardboard boxes using rocks instead of minis (there's a photo), or how some soldiers got their entire platoon into Monster Musume to the point that their commanding officers were trying to figure out what manner of witchcraft they were in to. From what I hear you will find more weebs in the military than your local anime convention, not to mention an abundance of gamers and cardgame nerds.

How the miko ode to joy clip hasnt already been inducted into the hall of fame is beyond me bro.

Vet here and for the Shiina part what she's saying is true. Had a bodybuilder buddy in the Air Force that was into cards and I was sucked into the Kantai Collection arcade game when I was stationed in Japan alongside with track bike racing. Even if the military is a relatively small group it's diverse in the hobby selection compared to body shape so it's always a shock when your buddy does something out of the norm. Also Japan is always a lucky draw when you're getting shipped to a new base since every new guy puts it on their wishlist.

The Muscle Mommy flavor should be described has having a taste of "Umami" but spelled "Umommy".

The Navy thing is true, I used to co-own a game store years ago that was primarily Yu-Gi-Oh trading card based ( This was around 2006 during its major hype ) . Cases of singles, packs and boxes everywhere and Tournaments every weekend. We used to package and send out thousands of cards to the military over seas, they asked to have them sent all the time because it gave them something to do during downtime. We also sent over tons of Magic cards too, almost forgot that.

As someone who's in the military I was both surprised and amazed on how many people play TCG, watch anime, Vtubers, play games, etc. Like you would not believe it but I can confirm there are weebs in the military

Oh yeah! The bit about Navy peeps playing Yu-gi-oh, it's actually pretty true. At least for me, it was Magic the Gathering. It's because when we're underway on the ship with nothing to do for months on end, it's a totally analog way to play stuff. Especially so if we're in conditions where personal devices weren't allowed to be on.

About the kaela x Bibou clip that one is wholesome but there are more cute and wholesome moments between the two. Also about the tenma clip there is another version of the clip of her berating Sakana which is just better. Highly recommended to checkout

Duude.... When I was active duty Air Force, we played a ton of Magic the Gathering. A lot of military members are serious gamers. Highly competitive. Lots of random downtime. Plenty of jobs that were just waiting for something to happen, so you sat around playing games to stay awake and ready for those things to happen.

Active duty folks love them the nerd stuff. When I was in the Navy, I had multiple D&D games a week with different groups for each game and had 40k matches most weekends, and monthly DBZ cardgame tournaments. Once base I was stationed at had a hobby shop in the Exchange that catered mostly to RC cars but did keep Magic, Pokemon, YGO, and DBZ cards in stock.

Even without the fighting game brain, I literally have never played a single one, it took me a while to realize what is wrong. The better way to say it, would have been "While touching the ground" or something like that, because "on the ground" is usually only used in the context of being knocked down, or some item lying on the floor.

There are larping groups ( SCA and Amtgard from what i know) on the 7th fleet of the Navy. there's also a bunch of army/Marines as well. my town is connected to a base and we constantly got them on sundays.

17:22 Can confirm 100% that this is true. I work in a Navy shipyard where we fix up the ships, mainly the aircraft carriers, and every time I go into a mess hall or a break room, there are dudes playing Yi-Gi-Oh!

90% of the military are nerds, especially the Navy. When you're deployed for months at a time, you quickly get bored. Every and any kind of card or board game, video games, red rover, etc. I still carry a deck of cards in my car out of habit.😅

About that last clip. Something to remember about the pushback against Xbox One becoming online only was that one source was from the US military. A lot of them are in remote places with bad Internet and their entertainment option from Microsoft would've gotten severely limited with that DRM requirement. Military folks are just normal folks. Of course there's gonna be a bunch who love games. But they're also normal folks. You're not guaranteed to find anyone with matching interests. So Koe is probably right that if he joins he'll have the worst luck and be in a group full of normies. Edit: Made a small correction since I worded things wrong.

one thing i think could do with tweaking is the volume mixing, i turn it up n listening to just before tenma enters and starts going crazy and your laugh literally jumpscared me. So just one thing i thought id say as it just needs a lil volume adjusting between the videos and your mic. Hope this feedback may help ya out man, for future episodes.
