Dave's show was always best when it looked like it originated from someone's basement.

A nickel and dime, dog and pony show at 30 Rock, not so much at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

Though still very good, Dave lost something when he moved to CBS … something subversive and edgy

He was awesome very funny on NBC.
People ask me what my greatest accomplishment in life has been. Published eleven books so far; was a professor for 25+ years; was named one of the top 15 best professors in the U.S.; had lunch with, and got a medal from, a sitting president; blah blah blah. It was all worthless. Truly, the only accomplishment worth remembering starts at 1:42--when I got my letter read, and my name said, by David Letterman in 1985 when I was in college. Still a good tip to reuse calendars, by the way. And also: Dave is still The Man. I'm not worthy--then or now. Thank you, "Late Night."
That dog bit was friggin brilliant ROTFL 😂😅😂🤣
The dog sitting in the chair next to Dave as happy as can be is funnier than the actual bow tie incident clip. What a good dog! Dave is so delighted by the dogs, and the dog voice is hilarious... I love this.

I'm pretty sure it's Jeff Martin, who also played Flunky the Late Night Clown. I like his comment about the FBI joke writer deserving a raise. Obviously a joke he wrote.
Now, this is how every late night talk show should be. Innovative, exciting, and entertaining. Thanks, Dave!

@@chrisarseneault5617 Yeah, but Dave did the revolutionary stuff first, and Steve Allen did everything before everyone else.

@@KungEMuller I agree. But Conan continued it and brought it to a whole new level. Kimmel, Leno, Fallon, Myers.....all sukked

@@chrisarseneault5617 True. You know, I'm trying to do revolutionary stuff on my show, too. Will you please take a look at it?

I've never understood the fandom over Conan. Not anywhere near as clever as Letterman at improvising jokes, in my opinion. And I disliked his way overused self-deprecating jokes and his overdone laugh. I had no idea until I started reading KZread comments a few years back that he had such a large fan base.
2:36 Jimmy has that look. Perhaps he should tell Dave that Nixon is in trouble.😁
Dear kind doggy ❤❤❤😂😂
Joe was awesome!
Columbo, that’s a good show.
Viewer mail/stupid smart pet tricks!👏🏽👏🏽 💭 🐶
I think doggo Joe stole the show! And I always suspected that Dave was an Elvis fan. Great shout out here to Elvis from Dave 👍
Remember those lucky numbers, folks. You could be a big winner. If that's your number, you can collect your prize at the front table.😁
Is that Jeff Martin voicing the dog?

Yes. Also, Chris Elliot fell off the cliff.
1:14 I would have thought Dave was the man afraid of Wink. I mean, every time that man hosts a game show, his enthusiasm is way too scary.😁

That would have been a funnier joke, in my opinion. Holding up a picture of Wink Martindale.
I love that the two dogs were very obviously pets, not trained performers.

It's actually three dogs, but it's hard to tell, as all three are not on camera at the same time. But you can see that Joe's coat is a different color from the other two who stick together.
Man how I miss good late night television humor.
Can someone tell me what kind of dog that is? What breed I mean? He's so cute and well-behaved.
For all of his comedic trailblazing status and revolutionary approach to late night, it is a pity that Dave did not manage to popularize having dogs as part of the cast of a talk show. Seriously, look at that talking dog, he's a better co-host than most!
I'd like to know what name was on the back of Dave's Dodgers number 2 jersey. Durocher? Lasorda?
I hope they got ‘Tim’
For a traumatic incident, Dave seemed pretty nonchalant. That bow tie could have saved him if Dave had only gotten the lead out!
He could never do tge , I’m afraid of Link skit in todays PC WORLD

Imagine a late night show that’s funny. No spewing of they’re political propaganda
:)
That's so nasty having a mut all over the set like that!
