    A few of these trucks I've driven and although they didn't have the luxuries of today's trucks I have really fond memories and enjoyed every hour I spent in them, my father drove quite a few of the older ones

    Glad we don't have to drive these for a living now. I don't miss them either. 20 blankets on engine cover. Shitty clutches that knacker your knees. Brake judders built in. Guess a gear and 2 speed axle changed if you are lucky.

    I like old British trucks,, reminds me of my Mathbox days when I was a kid, No one made American truck models with that much detail, so we had to collect matchbox.

    I for on was glad to see the end of the English trucks. I started on a Atkinson with a 150 Gardner engine no powered steering fiberglass cab. It was a new world when I got a new Volvo F12.

    Thanks for rekindling all the memories , of the Commer " knocker " engine screaming it,s way up here dragging loads of cars ( the bloke across the road drove one for a living for years ) , the Bedford 7.5 tonners trundling up here every day to collect the milk churns , again , for years , & the sound of the long - suffering but indefatigable engine in the Leyland ( Amey roadstone lorry ) like the one I passed my test in , just what was still holding it together & how it could still do 60 by the time I got to it I,ll never know , but IT DID ! Thanks a lot .

    Nice... But kind of like as if an ancient but much loved head of state has died, this is all that's on the radio, and us kids have been told to play quietly, strictly no running around. There's someone coming on the telly and the radio at 6 to address the nation. This is a tough time for us all... 😢🥺🙁

    There's a fair amount of pictures of Maltese trucks in this video, most of which I personally recognize. I have a feeling that that pic of the green Austin was taken inside a warehouse in Hal Far. If it is, I was the middleman when it was sold to the Malta Historic Vehicle trust. I reckon Malta is probably one of the best places on earth to come and see old British lorries and cars trundling along...

    +John Benton Perhaps that question would be better directed at PACCAR of America . They own Leyland Trucks, and DAF as well. That's right, DAF doesn't own Leyland Trucks. DAF doesn't exist in its own right either!

    +Gixxeff 750 It will soon be the United Sates of Europe once all of the political parties have convinced the sheeple to vote to stay in the EU with Scotland going to be a region and England going to 9 REGIONS in that corrupt organisation that has never had its books audited as most of the money is going out the back door into the off-shore accounts of the Rothschilds/Vatican that run and control everything including the UK. The UK will soon be old fashioned now just like most countries as they build their New World Order - One World Government DICTATORSHIP.

    All these brit trucks were absolutely hideous things to drive, ERF's/ Fodens/ Sudden Accidents ect with low power Gardner and non synchro gearbox's just had to be the worst. Its no wonder the British truck industry is no more, flattened for good by DAF, Scania and the mighty Volvo's..

  • @williamwoods8022

    @williamwoods8022

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Draxindustries1 That will be Daf and Scania and many more that were based on Leyland engines etc. Gardner engines were successfully used in many different types of buses in the UK as well for decades and were very reliable as were Leyland, AEC, Daimler, Bristol etc and as for gearboxes it was what the operators wanted that went into the trucks and buses and even when the manufactures were offering semi and fully automatic it took them a long time to change over to them. It was joining the commercial side that was very profitable to the car side that was not that brought down the truck and bus makers as that was sucking all of the profits out of the commercial side into the car side.

    True but back then DAF if they existed would likely have been no better. I agree that UK truck and car industry self destructed but we shouldn't think that back then our vehicles were any worse than the rest

    @@williamwoods8022 The old Gardner engines were very reliable according to my grandfather, in his early days he used to work for a trucking compagnie which had lorries (I think that they were ERFs) with Gardner engines, they would go up to 1 600 000 miles (something like that) (=2 500 000 KM) with only new clutches.
