This makes me want to return the love and care to all the Vietnamese aunties and grandma's out there.

I really appreciate how respectful and humble you are. When I lived in Korea and Vietnam, I saw arrogant, rude foreigners far more often than I wanted.

It is so refreshing to finally hear my dialect, I am surprised that max understands the hue accent because most Vietnamese don't lol

People in hue are different, more relaxing over there….. The last time my husband and I went there was in 2008. We really enjoyed the foods over there. Hope we have time to go to Hue in the January. Even though i was born over here, I’ve always resonated more with Asian culture, maybe in my past life i was Asian 😅

Man, I love your videos @maxmacfarlin This was my dream growing up. Learning a new language, immersing in the culture, and just experiencing it while meeting and connecting with the locals in their native language. I wasn't able to get over the cusp of fluency (spanish for me), but I tried learning Vietnamese as well and it's so cool to watch. Love seeing the genuine interest and enjoyment in your videos. Definitely watching these with a vicarious appreciation. Good work in learning the language. So cool.

Hi Max, "cá kho" means fish stew, "cá khô" means fish jerky (or dried fish). What an interesting dish (cháo nếp with cá khô)! It looks like they stewed the dried fish. I can see how confusing it can be. Hope I interpret the terms correctly. The people are so sweet. So are you.

I've been to Huế once! I wish I remebered more of it. I was only 8 at the time and didnt speak the language. And we were visiting my step mom's family. But I remember having fun, and everyond being really nice. It was also August so I remember it being very very hot 😂

Im not sure but women in Asia seem to wanna take care of you when you’re eating something new. My first time eating a white fish (Bangus maybe?…) 2 ladies sat at my table and pulled out all the bones too. I felt awkward at first, but they assured me I should eat. It was fantastic.
