Good timing and a little bit of planning brought together two Vietnam veterans who haven’t seen each other since the battlefield.

Thet are indeed blessed! So many returning Vietnam Vets were treated horribly. They did not come home to reunions with families and friends, parades were not given in their honor, jobs were not offered to them, help with health and PTSD were not easily available to them. Many of them lived homeless, and many still do. Many turned to drugs and alcohol as they were constantly belittled and told they were worthless. Those that fought for our country should never have been treated so unjustly. I like to believe that the generation who behaved so badly has since learned their lesson. I, for one, am very thankful for their service and consider each one a hero.

Many years ago, a client at the office where I was working was a Vietnam veteran. One day we were talking on the phone about his case, and somehow that subject came up in the course of our conversation. I thanked him for his service to our country, and he just broke down. I quickly apologized for upsetting him, and he told me it was just that no one had ever said that to him. It broke my heart. I sometimes wonder about him; it was one of the many cases/clients I dealt with that I’ll never forget.

Thank you for sharing this. I hope soldiers of these wars that are obviously for some hidden agenda understand that the average American citizen APPRECIATES THEIR SACRIFICE. They do as they're told. Most of the time times it's for good reasons, sometimes the government uses them as pawns. It's not their fault. They showed their devotion to their country. They were tested and shown to be of the highest integrity. There truly is no higher love then giving your life for another.
