Desert Storm troops returning home had their arrivals announced over the air port speaker. The people would stand up and cheer them as the troops exited the plane.

I soon learned to not put it on a job application or tell anyone that I was a Vietnam veteran. We were considered damaged, drug addicts.

I was the there the last year of the war. We CLOBBERED the invading North Vietnamese army at the town of An Loc, north of Saigon. Their only recourse was to retreat back into Cambodia. They learned a VERY valuable lesson in that invasion. That lesson: They could NEVER conquer South Vietnam as long as the USA was able hit their massed forces with bombs from B-52's. That changed (two years after the American ground forces had been removed from South Vietnam, 1975) when the American Congress NOT ONLY refused to continue funding the South Vietnamese Army...BUT (and probably more importantly)...REFUSED to fund B-52 raids against the invading North Vietnamese Army. Those two actions KILLED 10's of THOUSANDS of South Vietnamese and inflicted Communist rule over the South. There was NOTHING lacking in our military regarding the end of that war. The US military WON the war in early 1973! The fall of the South was all in the treasonous actions of the Democrats in Congress....PERIOD! The SAME treasonous bunch that sold out Afghanistan and its people to those Muslim fanatics.

The North Vietnamese offered a face-saving deal to Nixon. Sign a peace treaty and we'll behave for several years. Nixon knew then that once we got our boys safely home, people won't give a darn about Vietnam anymore.

Never forget that just like there are Vietnam veterans out there, there are the people that spat on them, & called them baby killers out there too. Funny you don't see those people admit it, or see them being interviewed.
