At the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, Death lasted around 20 minutes.... The last section was done with no PA to the audience just their own equipment....

hahahaha! Yes. Vietcong's Crown Jewel.
Amazing! I can only imagine how a KEXP performance from Women would've been, such a shame they never had the chance!
It's been 5 years and this is still the freshest, most exciting (yet poignant) thing out there. It seems I'm seeing 40 something years of my favorite bands flashing right before my eyes in one group! Amazing!!!

They remind me of Gang of Four, especially on Bunker Buster, and that's a very good thing.

theLatinloser what about the double p-bass pick ups
Their album is so interesting. all songs are well connected together. the experience is worth it. i wanna see them live as soon as possible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Double precision pickups on the bass??
Saw them live in Vienna on a hot summer night in a tiny venue. They had to stop after 45min as no one could stand the heat anymore- best 45min ever, sweat dripping out of every pore not only because of the heat but because of the energy spend speeding along to those tunes! Amazing. Included a nice chat with the band outside afterwards. Wish they‘d still perform & tour!
I saw them live and felt the best song-surprisingly-, was unconscious melody.

This Heat Viet Cong
I love this show: three of their best songs with Matt's voice at it's best and an album quality mix.
Jesus that was some intense shit right there.

The band This Heat definitely sound like these guys a bit. These guys are a bit less disjointed than This Heat but there are parts of their songs that sound pretty close, also some of the vocal harmonies.
Jeden z najlepszych mini-koncertów w KEXP !!!! Szacun, odjechałem ... :-)
dannys playing on bunker here is probably the highlight of this set
i swear to god cheryl waters makes the best interviews
They are unbelievably tight
Ugh Death is such a good song
SO INTENSE ! LOVE THIS BAND !
Drummers tshirt - Budenell Social Club, best venue in Leeds!
Love this video. I've listened to it about 20 times so far. I like the sound of this recording better than the album versions.
Amazing ! thanks for sharing*)
This music is exciting. I love it.
Amazing!

***** I found that out recently. I like their new stuff too.
Okay, I'll own up, I'm the listener that looked it up... "Where does the expression ‘by the skin of my teeth’ come from? After Shakespeare, a prolific coiner of new words, the King James translation of the Bible has been the biggest source of phrases in English. ‘By the skin of one’s teeth’ is one of them. Meaning ‘narrowly’ or ‘barely’, and referring usually to a narrow escape from disaster, the phrase comes from the Book of Job, in which Job is subjected to horrible trials by Satan, to be relieved finally by God. The precise phrase Job uses is slightly different: ‘My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth’ (19:20). Exactly what ‘the skin of one’s teeth’ might be is not entirely clear, and there have been many theories put forward. The most plausible explanation is that it refers to the thin porcelain exterior of the tooth (rather than the gums). In other words, Job escaped with his teeth, but just barely. Job is comparing the narrow margin of his escape with the shallow ‘skin’ or porcelain of a tooth: the equivalent, in fact, of a ‘hair’s breadth’." Seeing these guys not too long ago in Fredericton in a small pub was extravagant. They definitely have an amazing atmosphere live, a few times i forgot what life even was or that i had a body. Definitely was an amazing experience overall! I had known them under this name but never knew they had changed to Preoccupations and was definitely super surprised finding out who it was i was really getting to see.

When the drummer first started, it seemed like the video was sped up. Crazy tempo. Singers voice reminds me a little of Screaming Trees guy.
Glad I found this band. They sound pretty fucking good.
Increíble, dejan todo en el set.
I absolutely love his voice! I think KEXP should put a link to the band's official page in the description of the videos.

At certain times, his voice reminds me of Richard Butler from The Psychedelic Furs. Either way, Matt's voice is pretty rad! I know I'm a little late but here's their website: preoccupationsband.com/ facebook.com/Preoccupationsband/ They've changed their name to "Preoccupations".

I was going to go out and do stufff... but realized this was all I needed for the night.. in solitude with VC
I LIKE IT
I love this perforrmance, I really wanted to see Continental Shelf and Death is so much longer, but regardless, amazing job.
I loved Women and love Viet Cong/Preoccupations. For some reason I think they could do a killer collaboration with Spencer Krug of Sunset Rubdown or John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees.
❤️so goood ❤️
so coooool
great band!
Didn't knew the band, what a pleasant surprise!
I can't decide which one I like the most!
i love the brudenell social club
The mix is so fucking good.
i've watched this whole thing about 6 times since i found it a few days ago. holy shit this band kicks ass live, i know they just spent a whole year touring but i hope they do it again after they've chilled out for a bit and recorded some shit

They're actually going to be touring a bit in the coming months around the release of their new album. I'm seeing them in DC myself, super excited :)
I like the Sampler used as Synth keyboard
My god I only listened to the self titled album like 5/6 times, finding it INCREDIBLE but THIS here it's UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. PREOCCUPATIONS is good but this was FIRE.
I want to see them live so badly. Hoping and praying they'll be in Michigan sometime soon 💕

+Dem Frootloopsies I have been learning a lot of their songs on guitar and they are quite easy. The difficulty in their music comes from timing between the two guitarists I feel. Just my opinion, not a great guitarist btw.

Connor Sarsfield It's like Spiral Architect. I love this kind of technical metal. That time signature change from 5/7 to 13/4 is crazy coupled to that polyrhythm.
Yeah!
They were going so hard on that last song that the drummers hat fell off from the sheer force they were exhibiting. Amazing. Definitely checking this band out
how do you play drums with a cat on your head?
The way they just start like that is so fucking cool
You know, on the first two I thought they started off kilt, and then DESTROYED!!!! Such goodness all around. Joy Division Forever!!
Death=finisher of the year
I WANT MORE VIET CONG.
Big up the drummer wearing a Brudenell tee!
YEAH
wow this is so ridiculously fucking good
The mix in this set is better than the album
funk yeah
unreal
Just god damn...
Underrated band.
That’s an interesting bass pickup configuration you have there
holy shit! dude
fuck yes, all the best to pat, rip chris, etc., glad they've carried on
"That was awesome!!!" - Cheryl
This some baller ass shit.
Pretty intense winter weather in Calgary eh? Come to Winnipeg.
Reminds me of Sonic Youth with a freaking amazing voice!!
Holy fuck! YES!
This what real original Goth music sounded like in the 80's.
when the lead singer talks he sounds just like coop in wet hot american summer
Watching with the sound off. Still good.
And the award for best guitar riffs goes to...
FUCK YES THANK YOU KEXP
the leadsinger is the bassist. It all makes sense now
this performance is un fucking real
This reminds me a hell of a lot of This Heat and to an extent Big Black.
Do they use timpanis in the record for that deep boomy drum side?
Can someone please tell me the model of guitar that the guy on the synthesizer is using?

Dem Frootloopsies It looks like a 1967 Hagstrom H-12 or thereabouts. 12 strings, Strat-ish body, Gibson-ish headstock (Hagstrom have slightly more distinctified headstocks nowadays, it seems). It also has the nubs instead of your regular switches found nowadays. reverb.com/item/638036-hagstrom-h-12-1967ish-sunburst?_aid=pla&pla=1&gclid=CjwKEAjws5CrBRD8ze702_2dyjYSJAAAJK9yK46hhXuzUYm98FKh9YLjFrUksgazrzA_9kA-W6PFBBoC5zHw_wcB
