good team. good talent. no question there. but one sees in the live chat section one of them describing the performing artistes as, "...each one a *giant*..." - 'giants'...? really?!! how casually are hyperlatives are thrown around...!?! its downright embarrassing. a shri TN Rajaratnam pillai or shri Karakurichi Arunachalam, or a shri MDR, or a shri. Lalgudi Jayaraman, or a shri GNB, or a shri. flute maali, or a shri chittibabu, or a shri Vellore Ramabadran would be what the word 'giant' would/could belong to and do justice to. these are youngsters who are still in their formative and proving up phases, and have a loooong way to go before they can even earn the right to words like *vidwan*.... one wishes the rasikas would hold themselves as rigorously, fastidiously, accountable to their words of comments or praises, as they should also hold the performers to high standards in their performances... these kinds of intemperate and lazy praising is what also misguides and inflates these young artistes' self-assessment and their consequent persona, and their on-stage actions, among others. for instance, the extent to which they obsess drinking whatever they are from their flasks ever so often, and from the word go....?! there is no other word to describe it - its obscene. the total concert itself is a short 2 hours affair, after all. one shudders to think what they would do if they were to be thrown back in time to the 40s, 50s by a time-machine or something, where the concerts would flow on and on, in case of temple concerts even into the wee hours.... and that too with 'zero' mikes or amplifiers... ?! we are not saying they should not drink water of whatever kind needed to keep their throats wet and conducive to further singing. but, like every other thing in life, there needs be moderation, and seemly manners in doing it...
