Video - The Real Jamaica - Interview With My 85 Year Old Grandfather - In The Hills Of Westmoreland!

Website: www.my-island-jamaica.com
This video is special and personal. It is the first time I've interviewed (and publish) a family member this close.
On New Years Day, we went to visit our #grandfather, Sydney #Vickers, my only remaining grandparent up in the hills of #Westmoreland, #Jamaica.
It was truly a memorable experience.
We learned about his mother, Ethel #Robinson, his children, Raphie Vickers, Veronica Vickers, Glenis Vickers, Lasburn Vickers, my mom, Valrie Vickers and his wife, Daphnie (Datna) #Finlayson-Vickers
Importantly, we also captured much about Jamaica, including the change in #Jamaicanculture over time.
It was also a good #history lesson for me!
You'll love it! This is #TheRealJamaica

@@myislandjamaica He is the same age as my parents. Both still walking strong, so far.... They are from St Catherine's in Jamaica. They have lived in UK since 1961..... I often ask them about the old Jamaican days and about when they came to the UK..... Your grandfather looks well for his age.

I liked what you are doing gathering all the information about your grandfather, because you don't how long he is going to lived. My mother and father both of them passed away, my father was the very 1st to go,he died in New York city 22years years ago at age 79 years old. If he was alive, he would 101 years old and. My mother died 6years ago at age 82years old if she was alive, she would be 88years old. It is a very good thing you are doing sonny boy taping your grandparent, so you can sheared the information with your children, children. Is only a pitty you didn't do both of them together. We got to learned to preserved family members history, that what is missing in Jamaica over the years. Now a days the younger generation in Jamaica they lost their own identity, if you as the elders. Is trying to shears some of the information with them, they are so egotistical towards the senior citizens. Some of them is so ignorant and arrogant you just cannot tells them nothing at all, they knows more than their own parents them. Young I liked the way you and your grandfather was rapping together, by trying to give you all the information about your family back ground and. Also himself while he growing up in the community that will help guide you, I strongly believe that you should. Check out your grandfather family members them back ground, because that your children they will know their families back ground and don't got mixed up with each other. Because they does not know their families history, because I have heard of several stories about it. Where family members got caught up into friendships and, not knowing that are relatives. Until it is too late because they themselves started to make a family too, so I strongly believe that everyone should try to know their families roots. Anyway guy I enjoying watching your video and, I can see that you are really proud of your grandfather. Because millions of people does have one like myself, my last grandparents died 41years ago.He was my grandfather he was well beloved by people near or far, because he was so cool to talked with. I kind of know about some of the things your grandfather was talking about going out in truck,to play cricket. Also the mento bands playing rumba box, gitaur and banjos.I born come see all those things, because I was born in the 1950s. Anyway good video not bad at all, I liked these family information it brings back memories to me,ok.

I really enjoy the contents of your genuine videos but I have to voice my disturbance with your interviewing style: imho, you interrupt people too much. Many times you will ask a question and before the interviewee can finish talking and my ears could be satisfied with the response, you will cut them off and ask "how about so and so. . ?" So frustrating 😠 Edit: other than the above, black really don't crack. "Papa really looks amazing."!
