The US said these tanks are the wrong type tanks for Ukraine - they only sent them because other countries would only send (more suitable) tanks if the USA also sent theirs. They are also very old models - but they were designed for tank vs tank combat... Not tank vs drones or to be used as artillery. They specialized in one thing in their day.

They were warned about the Abrams in this type of operating area; it’s weight, it’s maintenance and logistics. The M1 can really not operate effectively outside of the US support system built around it. This inevitability was expected. It was simply a political tool to get the Leopards and other weapons freed up by the Germans. It’s a great tank but not here and not within this logistical system. The word ‘expensive paperweight’ was used time and again with a warning that it would only get in the way but the Ukrainians did not want to listen. FIDO!!

But, the most important thing to understand, is that all of these tanks' primary design and development phase, occurred when ATGMs were a crew served special weapon and not something everyone is carrying around like a bag of RPGs. In today's threat environment, you don't even explicitly need a high performance weapon, because you can simply immobile a tank, for it to get gangbanged to death with drones.

Abrams is not the right tank for this war. It's just expensive to operate and repair. Also much too heavy for the soft ground and rainy season as well. Russian tanks will do the job way better mainly bcz they have a pure HE Frag round specialized for anti-infantry, which the Abrams lack. If they can source Russian/Soviet made tanks they should opt for them.

Abrams is outdated tank unsuitable for advanced warfare without proper air support. Tanks in this day and age need to be equipped with incredible anti missiles and drone systems and have some form of air cover.

Proof that spending close to a Trillion dollars a year on your defense doesn't guarantee you anything. The defense contractors have been fleecing Americans for the 30 years and we are now realizing we didn't get jack for all that money spent, just made a bunch of contractors and congressmen rich.

In 2015 Obama refused to arm Ukraine because he said "Russia has the capacity for infinite escalation. No matter what we give, they can leapfrog that capability resulting in Ukraine never having an advantage and just being destroyed in the process." Obama was the highest IQ President probably since Nixon.
