    You know, since this is 3D printed, you could theoretically have scaled up the model to make it scaled better with the animated toys.

    Plus aftercare. How long do I provide replacement pieces if they break? How do I even know it broke due to a flaw versus someone just being rough with it? How do I know when it’s “good enough” for the customer? Just a lot to deal with that I don’t know if I want to.

  • @NightmareZerogbs

    peaugh selling prints can be kinda complicated precisely due to the inherent fragility involved, I've been selling them for a while, but I always sell single piece prints, I still haven't quite gotten the hang of how to make tolerances be good enough, however, something I always make clear for the customers is that frailty, that they must be careful with the product. I mostly sell PLA prints, but I do offer the option of ABS should they require something a bit more durable, but ABS is harder to print :/

    Man, seeing this makes me sad there's no 3rd party companies making Animated toys. It's a completely untapped market and people could do some amazing stuff with the characters, just like this guy. But nah, we clearly need 10 barely different figures of G1 Grimlock.

  • @leetri

    @leetri

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Kunoros Hound of Athreos When there's already 3-5 companies making the exact same figures in the same price range with the same quality as you are there's not that much more room on the market. Aside from reviewers and obscenely rich collectors, who is going to buy a 5th masterpiece Grimlock? Since there's no one really making figures outside of the G1 style (and the occasional IDW one) you could be the first and corner the market. I mean, people are obsessed with Beast Wars (even Hasbro is returning to it) and yet there's no one making 3rd party toys there either (outside of Megatron and Primal). They could make bank on 3rd party Beast Wars toys, but nah only G1 is allowed.

  • @TristenSarelvun

    @@leetri There is one company making a Cybertron/Galaxy Force Optimus Prime. I haven't kept track of them and don't know their plans, but presumably if it sells well enough they'll make more Cybertron figures and maybe branch out. Besides that, there are a couple companies making figures based on artwork for some cancelled TF series where everyone turned into mechanical animals, and a few others. They're sparse, but they're out there, and if they got enough supporters, they could get bigger and do more non-G1 figures, and others might follow in their footsteps.

    I feel like this could be the future of toy production. Like 3d printers will become more affordable and available so most people will have one. Then toy companies can just sell the schematics and you print them out yourself. This way if anything was to break you could just get a replacement in a few minutes to a few hours depending on the piece. You could also use your own colors to make different characters using the same mold.

  • @Eradose
    @Eradose3 жыл бұрын

    I do agree with the idea that if you or someone else offers to 3D print this for others that they should buy the files themselves. But I also know that 3D printing isn't easy, and they are very tempermental, so it's not something that can be done on a mass production scale with just a single printer. I've had my 3D printer since July, and I've been having a lot of problems with it, with missing layers, materials clogging the nozzle (my 1kg roll is some kind of bioplastic that has trouble melting properly even at the highest temp), and I've already had to replace the nozzle and the Teflon hose. Really hope to get the gremlins taken care of so I can print this myself (I did buy the files for his Siege Shockwave add-on kit).

    I ran most of the larger parts overnight, but maybe 40-45 hours of print time? Ish? I didn't keep good track of the time. Maybe 3-4 hours after that to fix up/assemble, most of which is those little cockpit window pieces, which took a little over an hour. As for materials, I used 7 different colors of filament (gray, purple, teal, yellow, red, black, dark gray), which average about $20 per kilogram roll, so $140. BUT I didn't use anywhere NEAR all of any of those, the actual material used was less than $20, maybe even less than $10.

    The windows are each a separate piece?! Wouldn't it make more sense to have them all just one piece that goes behind the gray?

    Given all the time and effort that went into printing this, I would think, if anything, that you’d be better off raffling or auctioning off a second figure for a charity of yours and Sam’s choosing. And, seeing as Magic Square bought TFW’s own NOCV’s files for for his Rumble and Frenzy from Shapeways-without working out an actual deal with NOCV to license the design, Sam oughta be careful of what he wishes for. 😔

    So they had the chance to make a lugnut you can print but they make it the same size as the original? The issue was we never got a leader class lugnut to go with bulkhead so what's even the point of this?

    Yep. It’s designed to fit in the Iron Factory scale. But you could just scale up the files as big as you wanted on your own.

    Mate, want a big one? Make a big one. That's the magic of 3D printing. This was just my original design plan but you can do you, scale is just a number in cura

    Is it me or does the transformation seem little janky especially around the legs like maybe it's me because I had simplistic Transformers and I've never had any Masterpiece with any complex transformations but man that Transformations is a little risque on a lot of levels

    while I find this 3D printed TF really cool in design and engeneer, I think this technology, for now, is good only for prototypes, as the print is still not smooth enough, and I find the printing lines really unpleasing. Maybe in 3-4 years of evolution of the technology we could really print our TFs at home with an high-end quality, but for now I'll pass.
