one of my favourite leaks is skate 4. the game is estimated to release in 2026-2027, and in mid-2022, 3 fully playable builds got leaked, and modders even managed to mod online multiplayer into the leaked builds, it’s crazy.

I was one of the few people who got Halo 3 a few weeks early, I’m not sure how large it was, but Tesco UK had rolled out early and my Dad had happened to have been in on the one day / several hours it was available for.

My favourite/least favourite leak of all time is the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King leak. All that time and effort, all that excitement... and then everything to the point of the freaking BOX ART got leaked. It was at the point where they acknowledged it at the reveal and straight up make a joke about it. "Alright, we've been working on something we think you'll really like. I know, there's always rumours on the internet. So how many of you have you been reading the rumours, you put your hands up? Right, all of you are all banned."

You should also keep in mind that gabe is genuinely one of the nicest guys. He went to a child's hospital in new Zealand after the child's dad sent an email. didn't have to and nobody except a few people who looked in the KZread comment section on a KZread short know about this. also he was basically on the ground floor working as a worker alongside the workers until he realized that sitting next to the CEO, both working on the same thing can be kinda nerve-wracking even if unintentional. he's also a big guy, very tall.

vampire the masquerade bloodlines is a lovely game that could've been even better but valve didn't let them have the finalized engine that they were paying for because they wanted half life 2. Then when the engine karmicly got leaked they rebooted hl2 because heaven forbid people have the tools to create things. no offensive toward gabe or his company. could've happened to anyone. i like how valve is structured, how it's a private company, and steam is pretty much the only mainstream gaming estore I respect. but people just don't realize how kneecapped gaming is due to industry wide info hoarding. games can't be art if people can't make art with them. the massive carbon footprint of 30 years of precompiled bloatware is so horrible it's practically unthinkable. What sucks about HL2 leak is it does disproportionately hurt Gabe and his company because the other companies should be sharing too. But they's rather hire people like the author of this video to brainwash us into thinking it's a bad thing instead. I wish more companies followed iD's example when it comes to releasing source code after so long. it gives their games an evergreen immortality that grows and evolves with computing itself in a marvelous way. While all these other rot with their source codes rotting in a vault.

That image was originally the "Halo 3 leak" around 2005 or 2006 onwards and would just be reused to act as oh this is Halo 4, Halo 5, Halo 6 I remember religiously looking for any information on Halo as at the time back in 2004 I basically just started with the internet. Was actually a relatively good time in my life.

I really liked the convo y’all had about halo tubers and tying one’s self to a single brand/series. It’s something I’ve always wondered about and to hear a discussion about it from someone who went through that wringer was genuinely very eye opening.

One thing about insomniac leak that i found out very recently as well is that with leaked source code of spiderman 2, there’s a gang of brazilians that released and still updating a pc port of the game, which is more damaging imo then wolverine leaks. It has various bugs and some peformance issues but they keep working on it and fixing it to this day

Yess I do miss these days when ripped copies would appear online for use on hacked consoles. Capcom and Nintendo were notorious for skipping up since at least the 7th Gen era. Brawl, Smash 4, all Pokemon titles since D&P, MvC3, Dead Rising 2, SFxT, the DmC remake, Halo Reach and 4. I could go on. There was always a thrilling sense of getting this *early access* to a fully dev game before everyone else.

Normally I tend to side with Valve on things, but Gabe lost out on an opportunity for a good employee considering the hacker ended up working for the German authorities. Gabe also showed that he knows to not only lie, but how to do it well. Something I will keep in the back of my mind going forward.

IMO the funniest leak is from u/BattlefieldLeeks who was a gametester leaked how insanely shitty the microtransaction skins would be for Battlefield 2042. But because of just how BAD the skins were, nobody believed him. I think every single skin he wrote about has been released at this point. And yes, the skins really are that bad. ESPECIALLY for a Battlefield game.

I really would have never bought The Last of Us 2 if it wasn't for the leaks. I'm the kind of person that's perfectly fine with pretending a sequel doesn't exist, and since TLoU1 had what I consider a perfect ending (it does everything it needs to do), I decided I'd just sit out of the sequel. However, I saw a little bit of gameplay (maybe it was just a cutscene or it was actual shooting and stuff), and from the leak and thought that the game looked good. Both graphically, and that it could be fun. So, I bought it. I guess spoilers are good for something after all!

You forgot to mention the Breath of the Wild Vending Machine Leak. There was this anon that had access to BotW copies from a store 2 weeks before release. They started posting photos of a box with the game copies and telling they was gonna dump a copy but since they couldnt take a copy home they brought their WiiU to the store, opened a copy and for some reason they hid their WiiU under a vending machine, sending photos of all the progress until they finally dumped it. A couple of hours later the game was fully leaked. It was a wild 4chan moment, the blurry photos of the console hidden under the vending machine still cranks me up 😂. Also TotK was leaked 12 days before launch and someone started streaming it on twitch, it was a 45 minute stream with 5k viewers before the account was banned lol

This happned when I was in retail. We had Destiny 2 copies early and wern't allowed to sell until the release day. I put them on the shelves like 5 days early anyways.

My dad worked on various projects for Microsoft during the late 90s/early 2000s his lab was next door to the Xbox original lab. When they would take breaks or a lunch they would play it. They’re team ended up developing many of the original jailbreaks or ways to root the og Xbox before the Xbox even was released. The day of launch they brought there Xbox’s to the Microsoft studio and upgraded the drives and performed most hacks that they had developed/discovered

They say at the end that they pivoted away from Halo. I think infinite kinda burned them out. They also spent several minutes complaining about infinite, and a lot of the problems they mentioned have been addressed and fixed, so I hope they give it a second chance.

A not-so-fun fact the Last of Us 2 leaks occurred due to a rebellious staff member getting tired of Neil being abusive to staff. Sony initially tried to claim it was an outside hacker responsible for the leak, but people doubted that as the hacker would have likely leaked much more of the game and other Sony projects if that was true.
