This would make sense considering how consistently he seems to miss Karl's points, he could simply have poor judgment/reasoning. Again, that is devil's advocacy, but being manipulative doesn't make him smart either and he may genuinely believe in some of his points even if he is intentionally lying and/or defaming Karl.

After all it looks like his videos usually get around 500 views so I think he was just making a hot-take reaction video. I’ve been a collector for 20+ years at this point (just turned 35) and what always made collecting fun was the awesome amount of games you could get for affordable prices, especially compared to buying them new upon release. If games plummeted in value, the likelihood of my business continuing with games as the focus (profit wise) would definitely shift. I’d start pushing stuff with greater margins. But man would I be happy for myself & gamers alike. I could get cheap games for myself again without having to buy big ass lots, pick out what I want, and then take months to flip the rest.

When he says "real" collectors, he means speculative investors. The actual real collectors saw one of the best selling, common games of all time sell for millions and thought, "That doesn't seem right". But Karl went and dove into this head first, did a bunch of frankly excellent research, and published it. Then immediately, people were trying to discredit and cancel him. This was an important piece of reporting, and the backlash only reinforces that. Nobody likes to be left holding the bag, but that is a risk you should be prepared for when speculating on any type of volatile market.

I agree. I was already casually collecting video games from a very young age. The only reason I would care about the market is so I don't get ripped off with outrageous prices. I don't care about rising and falling prices so I can sell them later, I care about that so I am able know if I am getting a good deal. I think that buying super common games for more than 3 times their original retail price is ridiculous. I buy games that came with a case with it because I wasn't the game to be protected so I can play it. I am a collector that wouldn't be opposed to selling games i no longer want. That is collecting. Buying games only for the sake of profit is not collecting. It's investment.

Like, he completely missed the point behind why marketing your own product without disclosing your relationship to the company (if you have one) is unethical and illegal when there are FTC laws that clearly state why. Plus, he seems to misinterpret a lot of things that Karl says and doesn't even understand what the video is about. He thinks Karl is attacking the entire graded video game industry, community and collectors when his video mainly focuses on two companies and their unethical and manipulative business practices. I really don't know how he managed to overlook this. Perhaps he's just not very intelligent.

I don’t want to believe that a man that can speak so well and seems to be at least moderately successful, could watch Karl’s video and so clearly miss the point. Maybe I can chalk it up to him being so close to the situation and emotionally invested that he subconsciously blocked out the point of the video because it would make him feel like his was played for a fool if he was/is a regular patron of Wata and Heritage. The guy's an idiot, but I don't know why there's criticism about his pronunciation of Mario; I didn't even notice that and it's just his accent saying Mario. He sounds like an American saying Mario to me. If I were to do a stereotypical American accent, I'd pronounce it Merio as well, because that's what Americans sound like. I guess some Americans might say Mahrio too. I don't know; it's just his accent.

What they don't do is brag about the future value of a collectible and how much they bought it for because at that point it's not the item they care about but just the value it has or could potentially have which is no different from just throwing actual money on a table and talking about how they are investing it.

Exactly, he's not stupid. We get it, his audience won't, and they'll eat up all the dramatic music, the strawman arguments, the blatant misdirection, the simple digestible narrative - he's pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Scammers over the phone do this, too. If you're smart enough to see through their obvious lies? Dropped like a rock. They'll never call you again with the intent to scam, only to harass and annoy if you were an especially egregious example. I called my scammer a "benchode bosedeke" and he immediately hung up. I received calls for like two weeks. Presumably his boss told him to knock it off and call people they can actually scam, I dunno why he stopped. It filters out people who are going to waste the scammer's time. That way, they're only interacting with stupid people, and you know what they say about parting a fool from his money...

The editing of that dude's video feels almost satirical in it's over the top nature. It feels like a cartoony evil corporation's example of how to manipulate the masses. It's a very surreal experience overall. Either way, keep doing you Karl, I love every second.

The only reason this guy is taking issue with Karl is because he just happens to be the one that made the video exposing this scam. I really think his main issue is that he’d prefer to bury his head in the sand and be in denial about how much he overpaid and that he got scammed. It’s likely that he’s also just mad that this scandal devalued his collection.

Real passionate collectors will have some sealed copies as their "centerpiece" in their collection and will definitely own an opened copy for regular play. Game "resellers" will just argue over what part of their hoard is the most valuable at the moment and hypothetically how much money they'd make selling it all, they don't even see them as games anymore
