Jordan, the cat is kind of a reference to the commercial of Apple in 1984, where this woman comes up with a maze and destroys the screen. And the cat appeared before in the Scientist m/v, but it could also be a reference to this movie call "You only live twice", which in one of its posters has a man holding a cat pretty similar to the one seen in the m/v and in Scientist.

And I’m assuming storywise, that the other cats resemble onces, and that Twice was the ones that save them from the villain cat. Which I also assume that from the Scientist MV, the cat in the end also resembled Once being the missing part of the formula of O+T=

Chaeyoung actually talked about the moment where the screen with the cat gets destroyed with a hammer in their MV reaction video. It's actually an ode to an old Apple commercial from 1984. I think it's meant to symbolise the start of a new Twice era since this is the first album after their contract renewal, and the cat on the screen is from Scientist, the title track of their last album Formula of Love before the contract renewal. Thanks Jordan for this reaction and breakdown. Been waiting for it since the MV dropped.

I saw a comment talking about how the cat could also be the antagonist of the storyline in this MV. It fits too! At the start Chaeyoung was looking at a monitor with the map of Once planet on the screen. There was also a cat. Since in the Macintosh commercial the man on the screen was the evil mastermind, the cat from Scientist must be the foe that they are trying to take down and protect Once planet from.

Also, Chaeyoung has talked in the past about cat references in songs and videos, such as it being her favourite line in More and More (난 도둑고양이, I'm a stray cat), and the first references to cats and paws shows up in the video with Chae. I wondered if it is also a nod to her as the baby beast which is typically represented as a tiger cub.

That low shutter speed freestyle dance sequence is very reminiscent of 1989-ish music videos. (Eg mc hammer can’t touch this, paula abdul forever your girl, etc, etc). This was very popular during that time. Many music videos of that era had similar background dance sequences.

Personally one of the best Twice videos. since they switched from production studio to Rigend film the MVs are more dynamic, the great change in visual effects such as 3D composition and Simulations are very noticeable. I think we'll have a lot of crazy transitions for a long time !

that's so amazing! while watching this MV i did see some similarities in style and transition to Seventeen's HOT MV. i only realized now that they both were by Rigend film which is so cool!! and it makes me really happy and giddy as a caratonce

Honestly the amount of Easter eggs in this mv that have to do with Onces is so wow, it really makes their renewed contract more meaningful

I appreciate you decoding all the MV's little details. There are a few nuances in the scenes that I initially thought were added for no reason, but once more you come to the rescue by connecting all the seemingly unrelated things so that everything makes sense. 🥰💗

this is fun, and thanks for all the code. my theory about MV (which are totally other story for the song. :P) start with 'scientist' during the time before egg hatch. (which they are look worry) TWICE (might be another team TWICE) get the code, go in cyber world (Mina scene) , go the the egg in cyber space (Jeongyeon open the door, the light is the egg) found out someone try to control the cat (on screen is 'Chae-stein' patting a cat(which is the cat in hatched egg) . this remind me of Dr.No ) (ChaeStein : Chaeyoung + einstein , which also appear in 'scientist' MV) (also the hammer scene come from 'apple macintosh adv.', just this part they said it in 'TWICE reaction to TalkThatTalk MV.') so they safe the cat which hatched in 'scientist'. (might also all the cat in the world because many cats watching that screen. :P) (for more relate to the songs, also might be mean, no control or manipulate anything? let them talk by themself. ???) (final: after hear Jihyo said about open scene when Nayeon's heel stab the toy and it's said 'i love you' which the sound took out. so the MV mean say 'love' which you have to really mean it. not by force, not by manipulated or mind control.) just my theory anyway. :D just for fun, have a good day. :)

The cat sledgehammer scene is a reference to the 1984 Apple’s Macintosh Commercial, as for the cat, it was from TWICE’s Scientist MV and probably just an easter egg. It could also mean that they found ‘LOVE’ because they were creating the Formula of Love and the alien cat was hatched in the end.

I think jype planned to mix nmixx storyline to other jype groups ( twice , straykids so far) we know that the cat might be created by twice in their “scientist” mv accidentally, and they don’t know that it’s actually evil despite of its adorable appearance ( nmixx hinted that we should not be fooled by the sweetness) And if we are going to just focus in the meaning of the song ( song wise ) destroying the cat might be a symbolism to “ don’t be a puss “ or don’t be indifferent. Twice telling to the people they love to be brave enough and tell them they love them.
