Although not so much on the cohesive concept, their 2nd and 1st gen artists were still pretty bizarre in terms of execution (at their time) if you think about it. 2nd gen - SUJU's initial concept is to be a yearly rotational group (not really special, i think a jpop group did too) having foreign member and a large number of members (SNSD being a large group was also very foreign for girl group's at that time). TVXQ debuted as an acapella-dance group and etc. With the 1st gen welp they had the first idol group (HOT) so that was bizarre in their own right and also BoA who started to promote in Japan too was a new thing at that time.

💗Karina (Yoo JiMin) is the leader of the group, the face of the group, vocalist, main dancer and lead rapper: her symbol is a heart and her spirit animal is a whale. She is Korean. 🌙Giselle (Uchinaga Aeri) is the main rapper and a vocalist: her symbol is the moon and her spirit animal is a unicorn. She is half Japanese and half Korean. ⭐Winter (Kim MinJeong) is a lead dancer, lead vocalist and the visual of the group: her symbol is a star and her spirit animal is a Siberian Husky dog. She is Korean 🦋Ning Ning (Níng Yizhuo) is the maknae and the main vocalist: her symbol is a butterfly and her spirit animal is a tiger. She is Chinese. (Three more members are rumored to be joining) The translation of the song "Black mamba" is directly interconnected with the video and partly reveals the meaning of their universe, which is quite interesting and elaborate. The same can even be said about the name of the group itself. "Aespa" is divided into the letter combination "ae", consisting of the English initials "avatar" and "experience", and "spa", which stands for aspect and the whole name together is "meeting another self and experiencing the new world" on which their concept is based. Virtual versions are separate individuals with a mind of their own. Below I will talk more about the Aespa universe: A bright color palette, oversaturation with various details characterizes them not as a typical group in the girl crush style, who are simply characterized by this, but shows their universe as something unrealistic, fantastic, progressive in terms of technology, and the girls themselves as special heroines who took part in the experiment of the "Navi" system and who developed a strong connection with something incomprehensible, like virtual, but at the same time so real, versions of themselves (alter ego, to be more precise), who at the same time live in their own separate fantasy world "Kwangya", independent of reality. Aespa can coexist with their ae in a place called "Flat". Aespa's fandom name is "My", which in Kwangya means "most precious friend." Once, due to the "Black mamba" virus, the girls lost the ability to synchronize using the "Synk" application with their æ, whose world has now been swallowed up by some kind of evil, while the boundaries between reality and virtuality are becoming more transparent. Aespa is the only one who can solve this problem, so they decide to go to the world of "Kwangya", find and defeat the villainess. Based on the dark scene with Karina, "Black Mamba" either tried to lure her over to her side or already did it. Perhaps in the aftermath, Aespa will spend most of her storyline fighting the Black mamba along with her æ. And somehow along the way, SM will start to connect the story with all its others, thereby creating a common universe for all of its performers, which will be called SMCU (SM Culture Universe) - a common world based on artists and company concepts. Espa is their first project in this plan. As the name suggests, the concept appears to be based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Comics' Expanded Universe. Both superhero-based brands have numerous characters, movies, TV shows, books and more all set in the same shared world. Likewise, the SM Culture Universe is expected to bring together current and future SM Entertainment artists. In a statement, Lee Soo Man continued that SMCU will express artists and music through narrative content and is already set to include EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, and more. ✨Prerequisites for the birth of SM Culture Universe✨ If you remember, in "One (Monster & Infinity)" from SuperM, in the last scene of the MV we see Taemin with an LG phone and a mysterious symbol appears on the phone. At the time this clip was released, we had no idea what that meant. However, after a while, the very first released video teaser of the Aespa group showed that it was actually their logo. Then in October, an unusual location appeared at the end of NCT U's recent music video "Make a Wish (Birthday Song)": a subway car filled with flowers. At first, fans thought this might be a hint of NCT's future concept. It turned out that the same scene is present in the music video for "Black Mamba" of the new girl group SM. And that's not all. The video has its own unique connection: the post-credits scene featuring one of the company's biggest artists, the lead singer of BOA. A scene reminiscent of the concept of Aepsa Al's avatar also appeared in the recent video "202020 BoA", released to celebrate BoA's 20th anniversary since its debut. / Information about the members, and everything related to the SM Culture Universe, is official and taken from trusted sources "kprofiles" and "Koreaboo". The rest I made myself based on other comments. This is more than true.

This is gonna sound dumb and most will probably disagree but in my opinion since SM seems to be using other groups videos to promote other artists....Kai has his solo album release soon and I feel like maybe just maybe that thing coming out of the digital puddle at the end maybe it could be a hint to Kai's thing. I dunno probably not just thought I'd share ideas. Or maybe the ending of NCT's latest release "90s Love" with the spinning thingy. I'm honestly just making random connections.🤷😅

Personally, I think that as soon as the second beat drops with the "Black Mamba!", as the mamba eats the camera, they should have cut to black, then revealed the creepy snake lady scene with the red dust cloud or whatever. Then drop the beat, instead of having a quarter of a chorus then stopping in the middle. In my opinion, the placement of the snake lady scene really threw me off.

Alright, I'll try to summarize it as briefly as possible. Lee Soo-man (owner of SMEnt.) back in 2016 talked about SM's new path they want to take and that is called New Culture Technology (Abbreviation is NCT, same as for the group Neo Culture Technology). Basically he said he considered their whole work with SM since the beginning as Culture Technology, therefore CT. This year in March and later than last month he completely kind of forgot about anything with New Culture Technology (I guess because many things of that did not work at all and even NCT did not follow the concept, which he announced before their debut, but that is another long story) and introduced that he wanted to transform Culture Technology to Culture Universe. First step of this Culture Universe is this new girl group æspa, which has regular members and ae-members, which are basically the virtual version of themselves. Here comes the thing. ae-members were born in their own world. The world is virtual world. As everybody can assume those regular members were born in our real world. But there is a special "in-between space" called digital world, where all of them can meet up. Part of this Culture Universe are fans and their chance to join this digital world to interact and basically live with their idols. There is said our ae-version is also born in the virtual world and we will meet also in the digital world as regular/real æspa members, but I guess you know, you will create your character like in a game... So the group itself will make songs and discography in general as normal group. No vocaloids, no "all 8 of them singing together" or anything. Those virtual members can just be seen in music videos and beside that they can interact through mobile app in the digital world. But Lee Soo-man said they would promote separately. Real members as any other group in K-Pop and ae-members in virtual world and that is funny. I mean, yeah we might get some animated live stage, but as he said, we cannot go into their virtual world, we can meet up in the digital world, so I guess SM can say something like: "Yeah, they are promoting there a lot! We are not just able to see that...". After all of this to explain one last thing. The abbreviation, which is so similar to Marvel Cinematic Universe, SMCU (SM Culture Universe) is this whole SM digital world thing. Just Culture Universe is like evolution of their Culture Technology in general, but this SMCU is this thing, which starts with æspa and their virtual members meeting up in digital world also with other people like fans.
