Cross subsidization worked quite nicely in the 1970's in Cumberland. It gave many rural residents mobility they never had before. Make sure it stays a public service and not a cash cow for the rich.

They need to take over northern rail too, in greater manchester. Like they did with the overground in london.

That's happening in 2030 as with railways it harder to bring them under public control as the process is longer as you need to have meetings with the rolling stock companies, network rail, the government and all sorts. However, Bee Network will only be rolled out on to commuter services in Greater Manchester of Northern and Transpennine Express. It will most likely be routes like: Manchester Piccadilly to Rose Hill Marple/Buxton Manchester Piccadilly to Glossop/Hadfield Manchester Piccadilly to Huddersfield Kirkby to Stalybridge Wigan Wallgate to Leeds Hazel Grove/Piccadilly to Preston and Blackpool North Manchester Piccadilly to Chester

Only their commuter services in Greater Manchester are becoming Bee Network. Stuff like Alderly Edge, Glossop, Buxton, Rochdale , Rose Hill Marple services etc.@@bluegoose7832

My wife and I are travelling to Manchester on 29th October for a few days. We are going by train, so we could buy PlusBus tickets which I believe would give us unlimited bus travel on our arrival date, for only £3.20 each (as we have senior railcards) We’ll be arriving at Piccadilly station, travelling to our hotel in Mosley Street, then heading to the Art Gallery and Manchester Museum, which are all possible by bus .. I just hope the PlusBus ticket is accepted on all routes. An alternative seems to be the daily BeeBus ticket, or the Bee Anybus ticket, both of which cost £5. What’s the difference between these two please ?

I think you don’t need to buy a train ticket to get the Bee Anybus, whereas you can’t buy a standalone PlusBus.

The bus service should be able to turn a profit so they can go back in to providing a public service. Likewise it should not be bound to 'use or lose' any earnings each financial year. Private companies make losses from time to time so it should be no different for bus companies. What will be needed is the pedestrianisation of streets and removal of parking spaces as more people take affordable public trasnport. I'm sure there are plenty of dead end streets that lack play areas across Manchester that can be pedestrianised.

You DONT OWN them. The PRIVATE companies OWN the buses. The local government has control of the routes and fares around the Greater Manchester region. But all buses still own their own and operate these buses

The service will go down the toilet rapidly and cost twice as much to run.

Yuppp… literally a ticking time bomb, as a driver in greater Manchester already people were complaining they was waiting 40+ mins for a bus, drivers not having a clue and that’s because they’re all agency drafted in 🤣

The only other similarly run service in the UK is London. It works excellently in London so why is it destined to 'go down the toilet' in Manchester? Why is Manchester incapable of running its own transport like London?
