Good video, my first Swiss Army knife was a Huntsman way back In 1972. It has the long nail file and the sharpened curve on the bottle opener which is what Victorinox did in those days for a wire stripper. They continued the sharpened curve on the soldiers model into the 1990's. Anyhow I have a special attachment to that model, but recently got a Farmer X model which is very substantial. It is definitely a trade off extra features for a more robust build.

the huntsman is a great one knife edc. Many comments I've read agree with my opinion. Too big means carried less. 2 layers is ideal. Quote: The most important knife is the one you have with you. I love camping, hiking, and everything outdoors. Yet, I often wear suits and tuxedos. So my rule is, if you can have it in a tuxedo pocket, and forget you have it, and still cut down a tree... perfect. The Victorinox Camper is my choice. I use every tool daily. In the field, garden, and work and house. Minutes ago I installed a new dimmer switch with no other tool. Yesterday I cut down a limb in the yard and made toggles to sinch and carry bundles of branches. And last week, it was in my tuxedo pocket, opened a man's beer after he realized it wasn't a twist top. I'm sure I used it for many other things too. But I don't remember everything I did as I mindlessly reach for it whenever a task approaches. I've carried bigger, and often had to decide is it going to be needed today, and you need it, when you leave it behind. 2 layers, is an easy decision. I suppose the huntsman could be an alternative choice, but the extra tools probably won't get used. Big blade, small blade, saw, canopener, bottle opener, reemer, and corkscrew, wire strippers, tweezers... I use every one of these.

Like you I also have the Firefly where the the toothpick would of been. I added 2 of the Helix ( orange ) Tinder's inside the cork screw. This way I have the rod and the tinder to start an emergency fire. For everyday camping fires I use a larger rod. I like the Huntsman for the wood saw. It's a handy tool since I have a backpacking wood burning stove. It's the Firebox Gen 2 titanium Nano. I can burn either alcohol or wood in it. By the way , the bottle opener on the knife has a small wire stripper area that also works quite well with the Firefly.

Good review! I suggest adding a Tortoise Gear helix tender to the corkscrew. Also the small screwdriver on the can opener is actually a 2D Phillips driver which no one seems to catch. Great for tightening screws on gear that come loose. The hook is good for twisting loops in wire for trap building in survival situations. Love mine.

when exchanging the scales get the plus scales. They have an extra slot for the pen (also nice for carving projects to mark on wood) and the pin. On some of the plus scales there is an extra slot that you just need to open on the edge of the scale. This would be a slot for the (manually shortened) firefly. I love my victorinox and go nowhere without it. Nice Video, thank you !

Nice video. I've been carrying for over 65 years. My old man believed that "a man always carries a knife". Including through school. In those days it was allowed. Up through the Army I carried a scout knife. Then for 10 years, an electricians knife. Then I got a Leatherman around '93 and carried it in addition to the knife. When I retired in 2011, I went to a SAK Tinker and am very happy with it. I do not like the corkscrew because I tried one and it ripped my pocket. If I upgrade, it would be to a Fieldmaster. I have a SAK with a locking blade but it sits with the others in a drawer. You cut yourself? Take a corner off of your Tote N Chip. Good Luck, Rick

I do a tiny but mighty manager 2 in my pocket. it covers basic day to day tasks and it lives unnoticed. craftsman in a pouch in my backpack. it comes out for house stuff, art projects with my daughter, prototyping product models for work, and every outdoor adventure. the right sak is a superpower. I don't know how people get through life without one.
Love my Huntsman. Very versatile for field duty. Great video and review.
Camper is enough for outdoors but overall huntsman is enough for both urban & outdoors...best of both worlds😊
Huntsman is my everyday great SAK, great video
I’m in a very similar position to you. I EDC the Huntsman with plus scales. I love the alox models but I’m not prepared to lose the tweezers, pen and toothpick. There’s something special about the celidor scales.
Man...my favorite sak depends of what i'm going to do. They made so many different models , that you always want another one for another occasion. So i have about 10 VICTORINOX knives...and love thema all
Great Video ! Yep I love my Evo huntsman great knife that and the climber are my favorite thanks for sharing!
Just file to 90° the straight portion of the bottle opener spine and get a locking striker and an excellent ultra fine wood shaver/scraper
Great video. Thanks.
This is such a cool video!! I appreciate all the advice you're giving. I just got a Huntsman myself and now ordered some fireflies to go with it, such a great idea. Cheers from the other side of the pond in Scotland

Thanks Kevin. I'd love to visit your beautiful country some day.

I always have a Classic SD on my keychain, so the slimmer three layer Camper is the perfect coin pocket companion. Perfect compliment of tools.
I love the Huntsman! I just ordered one for my EDC.
I edc my Fieldmaster love it. I just ordered the Huntsman. Will be a perfect twin to alternate between.
Love mine.
SAK SPARTAN all day every day for me🦉
A knife I have been using as my EDC for a while now is a Camillus US marked knife that I was given by my father, it is essentially the same tool set as the Victorinox Pioneer Alox, and since I have been carrying this knife I have been looking into getting my first serious Victorinox and I went with the Huntsman model, as some of my favorite vacations are hunting, fishing, and camping.
I carry different SAKs at different times, but I also think the Huntsman is the best combination of size, weight, and tool set for being outdoors. I have the fire fly and fire ant in my huntsman. It makes it a real survival tool or just a practical outdoor package.
I just got this today and I’m so excited!! Great review.

Enjoy your new knife!
The chain lanyard and key hanger are a nice to have for the woods as well,
when exchanging the scales get the plus scales.
Now get the helix tinder for the cork screw. From tortoise gear. Perfect with the firefly. And I also grind off my key ring piece. 👍
Looking great!

I also carry a Huntsman. Ideal for the outdoors. I pair it with a Becker BK16 and it covers most everything.
Firefly fero...great tip. Never knew. For long backpacking I use Victorinox 580. Knife, scissors, nail clipper, and file for fero. All you need. Glen ("44")
Victorinox has BEST scissors
Hello from Ukraine, very cool overview. I am planning to buy this knife for my father. Personaly I own Explorer morel (because of loupe)

I use suspension clips on all my pocket knives. It makes carrying a SAK invisible. Low carrying and no weight in the bottom of your pockets.
I have one with wood scales it's my go to edc!
Leatherman goes in my edc bag but not on my person. I totally get what you say about the weight. In my pockry I'm carrying and Vic Alox Pioneer or a Vic Ranger grip 61 with a nod for a pocket clip if I want a larger blade. I love the Victorinox Pionner by the way. If there was on thing I wish victorinox would do though is find a way to put pocket clips on their knives. Its whyI sometimes go for the heavier Ranger grip cause I know with my clip mode I can secure it in my pocket.
The secret pin hole by the cork screw!
Cool video mate
Going to buy an Explorer. They are all great knives.
Use parcel hook as tent spike puller
I live in a ranch , and I carry a victorinox huntsman and a ka bar usmc
I carry two on me. The one handed trekker in my pocket. And the mini champ on my key chain. I collect them and have quite a few. Probably around 50. My favorite which is way to heavy to carry on me all the time is the swiss tool
I love Huntsman!!!!! :)
nice review of the knife
there is also hole for a straight pin under the cork screw or philips head, depending on the model you have,
I'm based in the UK so non locking is the only legal carry. The huntsman works perfectly for me too. Small and light to carry in work trousers and useful out and about also. Would like a Phillips driver in addition to all the other tools to make it perfect. Maybe they could replace the hook with a Phillips! Good video and echos my thoughts!! :)
I love that model it's the best!!
thanks for your video,
Just ordered one to add to my EDC
You mentioned not needing the screwdrivers in the field. I use them to tighten or remove the scales on my Becker fixed blades. They are slotted for both phillips and straight.

This is a great review.
Lol, I'm getting one of these bad boys for my 10th B-day soon. After researching and watching reviews for different swiss army knives from Victorinox, I finally decided on the Huntsman. Thanks to great reviews like this one, I'm pretty sure I've made the right decision. So, thanks! :)

I got the Silver Tec version. Just the right tools for me.
👍 Very good overview of my EDC knife. Thank you. A suggestion: using a file one can square off the front edge of the screwdriver/cap-lifter so that it will throw sparks from a ferro rod, the pressure is then such that there is no danger of the tool closing while striking.

Love the Huntsman. With the addition of a wood|metal file it would be beyond perfect. I find the toothpick very useful, though, and I was disappointed you thought it's replacement, the firefly, was so problematic that you chose not to bother using it to start a fire. If you're "selling" the Huntsman (and SAK's in general) then please show us that the firefly actually works.

I'm not selling anything. They work, I've tested them. They're expensive and no one sponsors me.
Great video, I recommend you the Victorinox outrider
Great edc. Agree, Would be nice if the big blade would lock. Been carrying one for about 20 years or so. Also, the blue color is great for outdoors because it's easy to see.

I edc the Champ (same translucent blue because it has most everything including the magnifying glass for starting fires with sunlight and saving resources (ferro rod etc) and it’s a little big but I edc it in a small backpack with my Esee 6 and my Izula is in my front pocket. You forgot to mention the steel pin, but you might not know about it. It’s located in the scales behind the corkscrew. Lift up the corkscrew and you’ll see it. 💪🏼
Good video. Got some neat tips in there. I want to get a leatherman multi tool but there's so many models I haven't figured out what I want. Hadn't considered a Swiss army knife

The new farmer x has the scissors, just check it out.
I always carry Fieldmaster it's just the same like huntsman but the difference is corkscrew and a Phillips screwdriver
They say, the best survival knife is the one you have with you, and the only knife that is always in my fanny pack is my huntsman. May i reckommend the channel of Felix Immler to the audience, the king of swiss army knives?
😀😀 fieldmaster same knife just has a Phillips screwdriver nice view I did a review on it just the other day
I take about 4ft of paracord with an eye loop tied on ether end and then put it around logs as a choker and the use the parcel hook as a handle for pulling logs or bunched of brush back to my camp fire I've hauled easily 70lbs with it
The Huntsman is my go to model in the woods, I have one with walnut scales so no tweezers or toothpick. Fo everyday I carry my Farmer X or Swisstool Spirit.

@@will5184 it’s a cracking pocket tool, the reamer is fantastic.
Been carrying SAK for over 25 years. Spartan but looking seriously at the Huntsman…… hmmmmmm?
Watch Felix use the saw by holding the saw at tinder level, supporting on the stump with your hand and across your tinder and drawing the fire fly or a rod across the back of the saw. Concentrates the sparks much better into the tinder. Watch felix’s video, my explanation is confusing lol
the huntsman is my go to SAK i have 4 in yellow,,
Got a huntsman as well but came with Phillips head screwdriver instead of corkscrew

Then my friend you possess a Victorinox Fieldmaster. I'm sure they will change the name in the future to Fieldsharer LOL. Great tool, enjoy.
It's so good I have two of them.
Love it
The parcel hook is indispensable for making a rabbit snare from wire, I believe someone has done a video tutorial showing the process I can’t find it again, but the hook is way more useful than people think. It’s the corkscrew that has me scratching my head. Well other than taking a cork out.
Will in wilderness I has two Swiss Army knives a huntsman and another both with saw on they has walnut scales greetings from the uk 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊

Great video, it helped me decide on the huntsman and it just arrived. As the mail,an went to hand me the envelope he dropped it on the driveway. I’m a bit ocd so that kinda killed my buzz. Knife seems fine. Do you know if they are drop resistant to some degree?

I've dropped mine a bunch, and haven't broken it yet. Like I mentioned in the video you might want to change out the scales once every 5 or so years just to refresh the knife. Other than that they're pretty bomb proof.
I feel the same way about Leathermans and other plier-centric multitools. Where can you get the rods?
