Victorinox 'Camping' Camper: RIP

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Victorinox has ceased production of these classic retro scales in 2023 - shame. So thought I'd have a quick chat about the Camper, a nice compact outdoorsy model.

So glad I picked one up recently, I had one as a kid that I lost and decided that 20 years later I should replace it. I would have been annoyed with myself if I'd missed out on these scales. Shame to see them go

I love the "Camping" scales and rather impulsively bought a camper in a sale only to find that it doesn't have scissors. Cue the "Ranger" which now lives in my camping box.

The Ranger is a great knife! I don’t always feel the need for scissors if I’m out walking in the woods or something for a few hours but would definitely include them for longer trips. Have you tried the Huntsman? Has the scissors but loses the file - it’s a brilliant ‘outdoors’ knife too. 👍✌️

@@accoutrements4469 I would choose the field master over the huntsman simply because I have more use for a Phillips driver than a cork screw

  • @accoutrements4469

I agree a Phillips driver is extremely useful - I just always find the back side Phillips quite limited due to its position - can’t get it into small spaces 🤷‍♂️ I just tend to use the can opener driver - works fine on most Phillips and pozidrive screws 👍

I am watching for the Explorer to be on sale right now, it is USD $52 with pouch as now. They do have the Huntsman on sale for USD $31.55 I really just want the scissors, so I might wait and buy the Classic SD when it is on sale, It is USD $23.97 right now. The Classic SD is small enough to but in my other pocket.

@@accoutrements4469 I just received my Huntsman today, I love it. Now I just need to find a belt knife pouch for it that has snap button. When the SAK Classic SD is on sale I am going to buy that one too, so if I want to go light, I can and I will also use the Classic SD as a daily back up that will be in my pants pocket.

It's as claimed, the 2 Camping Logo models the Camper & Ranger seem to be gone from Victorinox Global's main website leaving just the plain scaled Camper & Ranger models. I have a Camper with the Camping Logo on it & I took off the Camping Logo scales from a Ranger & replaced them with Navy disruptive pattern cammo scales & I put the Camping Logo scales on a new bought Huntsman that I gifted to a neighbours 18 year old son when he was drafted last year into the IDF.

@accoutrements4469 True, but in this day and age, kids can't have knives, so I guess they don't sell ? Always miffed me that in the UK, the Ranger model only came with a camping logo on it, but at least that was a metal inlay. Back then, you couldn't buy spare scales like today. I, however, did like the fishing models sea horse, and I can remember having a model with an old car too!
