I wouldn't say they have made a "successful" comeback (yet, maybe?) but I can see them trying. However, I feel the damage has been done and the brand's image is already tainted with these negative/ harmful notions that I think it can be hard for the brand and consumers to fully separate them from the past. And I can understand how some may think that this new "change" can be viewed as performative. Overall, great video! thank you for sharing ^.^

The worst part is society responding to all our critiques by saying, “You’re just jealous.” That we made fair criticisms about this being unhealthy. Then we were all met with “it’s just you. You are the one being lazy and not doing enough to be that size. You can also look like this if you are ‘disciplined enough.’” Did that sound like anyone else’s ED voice?

Strong disagree, it's women destroying women. Look at the standard of beauty in men's magazines and then compare that to the standard of beauty in women's magazines and fashion campaigns - men's magazines have much more voluptuous bodies and women's magazines / fashion labels show - even to this day - show women so skinny they would disappear from view of they turned side-on ... case in point, look at Aritzia or Henne (Australian brand) catalogues. Most men in real life don't go for the latter, they really don't. They much prefer fleshier bodies, which though are not indicative of the general population, are less severely malnourished than 'women's' models. Women are chasing the images projected by fellow women. They do it for the admiration of their own, not necessarily for the benefit of the male gaze, because if you ask any man on the street they generally always say they like a bit of jiggle.

I love the fact that Taylor brought up the comment that people said she looked pregnant or had a big tummy. As a female with a smaller frame everything is noticeable. For some reason people feel comfortable to comment on your weight when you are smaller and I hate it. The “friends” in my life thought that saying I would look cute pregnant was a compliment. Commenting on peoples weight is not okay. Regardless if you think that skinny friend of yours doesn’t mind. Just like how you are mindful of your thick thighs I’m mindful of my growing belly. One thing I still remember is a model who talked about the fact that she has IBS and she got to the agency one day and they told her she looked pregnant, and she got offered pregnancy fashion/maternity wear shoots and she just went with it because it was work. I don't remember which interview/documentary this was but it also talked about size 10 models who were working as plus sized models and were always expected to bring their own custom padding from home so they could put this padding on for shoots where the client was looking for size 12/14 models. Basically plus sized models who are the smallest plus size (by plus size model standards, not retail clothing standards) got the most jobs because they were the most versatile because they could become a size 12 or 14 with padding, and they had the slim face most clients were looking for.

You can either take this negativity and feed of it or let it go, afterall we are the only ones in control on how we react not others. If you want to be angry about others peoples criticism go ahead. It's doing more harm to you then good. Like I said, everyone has insecurities that's perfectly normal but you can learn to overcome it and move to something else. If the lady here is so bothered and triggered about her weight then maybe she should do something to change and better herself or not give a f. Is it wrong to bully someone verbally, absolutely. But how many times how many people will you come across that wont give a f and bully you anyway. So yes both parties are to blame. Making rude negative comments is wrong (unless with the intent of it being the only way to open someone's eyes with bluntless) so is shielding yourself from the truth (or if it's not weight but high, you have to not give a f and accept yourself as you are) None if it is easy to do of course but recognizing it is a steps to acceptance and searching why tha insecurity is a focus within yourself. Everyone goes through trauma, heal that to not be triggered by words.

Indeed. It baffles me that most of the VS models were not even American to begin with, most of them were Brazilians. To any other women, to look like a Brazilian, they'd have to mix up tons and tons of ethnicities from Africa, Europe, Indians from Brazil and even Asians. 3 out of the 5 official angels were Brazilians... During the 2000's, more than the half of girls who walked on that show were from 🇧🇷. How could American women be lured into thinking they could look like them if they don't have the required genes to do so? That's simply insanity at its finest. And I've never heard any of them saying they've been mistreated by the company or even abused, they all said they'd gain up to 10x more than the "average American and even European models" and therefore, they'd join in. After all, as you've said, it's a company, and as every other company, one has to sign a contract and behave a certain way in order to be employed still, and if one doesn't like it, gtfo. Adriana Lima, per se, started modeling for them at the age of 18 and left in 2018, she worked for them for almost 20 years and now they asked her to return and work for them again. So, if VS was this "evil" as some say, do you really think she and other Brazilian girls would've stayed for that long? Or even would come back and work for them again? Think about it...

I think my older bro seriously looked out for my mental health when I was growing up. He was 6 years older and had a lot of female friends (he’s gay) so he probably saw some things they went through. For my 12th birthday he got me a book called “Real Gorgeous” by Kaz Cooke and it was a humorous guide for girls on the reality of the female body in all its variations. I remember one cartoon of a designer saying he wanted women to diet until they resembled coat hangers. Something as absurd as that insulated my adolescent brain from the 90’s heroin chic.

I'm sure people watching this video and reading the comments already have an understanding that there will discussions on exact weight loss numbers. My therapist told me anorexia is so deadly because of the damage it does to your heart. Most people who die from it do not die of starvation. Even after you have recovered, permanent stress remains on the heart from constantly depriving your body of nutrients and energy. As a result, many die of heart attacks in their 30s or later in life due to a previous eating disorder.

The one thing that bothered me initially about the rebranding of VS is that they made the lingerie noticeably less sexy, feminine, and glamorous. Everything became boring and matronly. I know that this wasn't their intention, but it sent the message that diversity can't be sexy and glamorous and feminine, that those things are only reserved for the skinny, young women that we saw before. I wish we could have brought in diversity, improved the comfort of the garments, but kept the beautiful glamour. You cannot get anorexia from watching a thin person or admiring a thin person. It is an underlying very serious mental disorder. It is human nature to eat so there has to be something very seriously wrong mentally in order to not eat for days at a time. And even if you try if you don't have the underlying mental issues you can't get it. Just like obesity isn't catching and you can't get obese or end up with a food addiction from looking up to or admiring an obese person. Just like depression isn't contagious, just like bipolar isn't contagious. Unfortunately for some reason when it comes to anorexia there are a lot of people who are completely misinformed and think you can catch it.

@Trinity M yeah that’s what I’m saying though. A lot of girls online believe that the only way to be beautiful is to be thin. And usually they discover starving themselves, which can end up with them dying. I wasn’t saying that it’s the only way, but any diet could suddenly turn into something really harmful. That’s why we need to appreciate our bodies and accept them how they are, because even if you get anorexic and lose a ton of weight, the only way to live peacefully again is to gain it all back, change the way you think about food and finally accept your Body the way it is. (Which also means accepting that weight gain isn’t something to be shunned or talked badly about, because no one should be ashamed to eat and nourish themselves)

They were cultivated to be viewed as a trinket, so men could spend their "hard earned cash" on trying to "win" their affection. The patriarchy and capitalism is to blame for this messaging. DO NOT BLAME THE FEMS for being part of the system. They are exploited... Know your value, and show your worth! As I black woman I get what your saying and it’s true to an extent, the beauty standard in the black community is one of looking curvy, however it’s important to distinguish that our beauty system do uphold fat phobia as well as our tendency to shame skinny black woman I think many outsiders think the in black community looking overweight is desired but the vixen body, hourglass or pear is idolised in the black community whether in the America’s, in Africa or Europe even Asia for black people living their. We have a tendency to Shame woman who are too fat and do not have the ‘fat’ in the right places by saying ‘our men like bigger woman’ which is a generalisation and we sexualise black minors who develop these features early in their teens which leads to sexual assault cases among our young and high pregnancy rates among young girls groomed by older men This is not a win, us having a beauty standard that favours curvy and shapely black woman, what it does is reinforces insecurities in young black girls who are skinny or fat and places toxic beauty standards that lead to girls getting BBL’s in foreign countries (which is life threatening) I think a lot of us do not understand that. As someone with a pear body on the skinner side ( I’m not super fit but don’t have a belly) and can recount me being 11 and men staring at my butt and my hips and undressing me with their eyes, completely disgusting and dehumanising as well as degrading. We need a system that tells black girls no matter what size, skin tone, hair texture, weight, features that their beautiful. Instead of proping up certain beauty systems and being proud of our beauty system that favours curvy woman who are a bit bigger (unlike other races who prefer skinner woman)

My issue with VS and the modeling industry in general isn't the weight issue, since weight is something you can control. The height requirement (having to be as tall as a man) is what is so dehumanizing. It's nice that there are so many petite actresses and singers who normalize a smaller body type.

recovery is possible! I spent 6 months inpatient bc of anorexia at 14 and even though I will forever struggle, I'm at a healthy weight and intuitively eating anything and everything I want! If you would've told me that 6 years ago I wouldn't have believed it!! If anyone struggling is reading this: you deserve recovery, it's so worth it

When you look at how clumsily they work out, and how small of weights they are lifting, you can tell the lack of eating has made them incredibly weak. They can’t even do one pull-up, and they’re in their early 20s. That’s alarming

ok I totally get what this comment is saying and I don’t disagree- but just wanna say that I have been lifting weights for years, I do manual labor for a living, and I can’t do one pull-up lol. Pull-ups take a different type of upper body strength that doesn’t come naturally to a lot of AFAB people. Just saying!!

I wasted so many years and a good chunk of my health because if these crazy beauty standards... I am 52 now I was bulimic from 17 to 32... Still the problem was not over, I would starve as a matter or habit in my 30s and 40s. Only when I starting doing strength training in my 40s and accepted that I could not and should not be perfect (or forever young), I developed a truly healthier relationship with my body and its image. I was 48 kgs in my early twenties, now 55. The difference is my health, even with menopause and all, I feel so much better! I share this story to make two points: one, the damage caused by this company and the whole diet culture is huge and it may take ages to heal, but, two, it can be done, it should be done. Because you worth it! ;-)

This was a good overview of VS but I don't think they can come back from the damage they have done and what they have truly represented for so long- it's too little, too late and not genuine, in my opinion. I actually really like they're bras and panties (I have only shopped there for as long as I can remember until I saw the documentary and learned of their sexual assault culture with their models) and now I make an active effort to get my bras and panties from anywhere else, even though I haven't found a product I like as much.

YESSS❤ I always made sure to wear a bathing suit I was comfortable in with both my daughters so they seen their mom with a few extra curves 😎but confident in who I was. That was always important to me as a parent. Our children learn from home first and those impressions follow them forever. Love your message 🎉

I'll be honest, I've never been able to shop at VS, price aside. The store is just too freaking dark. I can't see shit lol and it makes me want to leave immediately. Idk if they'll make a comeback but I'm certainly not shopping there until the lighting situation improves 😩

Zoe: "It might seem like a no-brainer that a lot of the values Victoria's Secret promoted are...Problematic..." Yeah, that's certainly one way to put it. Another way might be to say I have personally cleaned out sewer pipes with lower levels of toxicity than the Victoria's Secret ethos and governing aesthetic.

me as a skinny tall girl i struggle way more with the thicc trend. i dont understand why bodys are a trend. everyone has a different body type its not like clothes that we can just throw away next year because they are not in anymore.

Exactly, whatever the trend is, it’s dangerous. Bodies should not be trends. Eating disorders kill, plastic surgery kills, this shit is dangerous.
