Not moaning and didn't say he broke any cycling rules just pointing to the vocal few that you cannot call some one a cheat if it's not illegal. Makes a mockery of the "in the true spirit of sportsmanship" segment of the olympic oath though.

That's not cheating, that's just a part of sprint cycling. Going over the red line is against the rules however, which is why the judges relegated Pendleton.

And yet the supposed elbow was deemed not in violation of the rules. Pendleton's impeding tactics were. Meares would have destroyed Pendleton in the third leg had Pendleton got the first one anyway. Meares is the better sprinter.

Genealogy is a fascinating subject. I grew up in Britain being told I was Irish, turns out I'm from all over the place - surely you understand the concept. Allows you to be devil's advocate in all sorts of situations once you're over the initial shock. There's a very good tv show "Who do you think you are". TV chef Ainsley Harriott went to the West Indies to find his roots, wept in empathy for his slave relations and later wept in anger at his other, white, slave trading ancestors. Very moving.

Again, apologies. I interpreted your sentence "See cheaters do prosper aye sport." as you thinking he was a cheat. Your new sentence "you cannot call some one a cheat if it's not illegal" clearly supercedes that, and is impossible to find fault with.

Makes him a gold medallist, according to the international track cycling rules, which he didn't break. It's why there's a rule book, for people to refer back to in order to compare what actually happened with what's allowed, in the same way that Victoria Pendleton broke them when she crossed the red line and was disqualified. And nobody who actually matters (her, the team etc) has ever disputed that, just whingeing Poms. That ancestral blood is what's causing you to now moan about Hindes.

It was nobody's fault. Meares accidentally leaned slightly onto the inside, Pendleton leaned back, as is natural. I'm not saying it was Meares' fault - it was a really small lean, but it still affected pendleton slightly. I'm not gullible - I haven't come to this conclusion based on what I was told - I watched the race, and nearly put my fist through the screen when the descision came through. It wasn't meares fault, but she shouldn't have got the descision.

I think it should be you crying, what was it? 7 gold medals, 1 silver and a bronze. Oh, and a disqualification in the other where we were guaranteed at least a silver. She did make physical contact with Vic before she went out of the sprinters lane so the result should of stood. And let's be honest, in physical beauty, Mears is nothing compared to Pendleton and Trotty sat next to her. So whist were flying high with 24 gold medals, you can tell us 'poms' to cry as much as we want..

English & Scottish Act of Union 1707. First Australian Constitution 1901. Not exactly sure what point you're trying to make, but I think if you're trying to turn the clock back to a time when their nations were separate, you're going to end up with a bit of a problem. Because until 1901 New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania were separate states. Your own argument says Australia represents 6 countries. History, you see, can be a right bastard.

It isn't a full on lean - meares' wheel pulls to her left, and pendleton reacted by doing the opposite. You're insisting on making this a big issue - I've already said to someone else on here that it wasn't meares' fault, and that I'm ok with the result, as pendleton was. You are just being paranoid here - meares has the medal, you should be happy.

Applying the law but sometimes I act on a whim, anyone who acts in an unsportsmanlike way who gains an unfair advantage deserves to be DQ'd the spirit of the games should always be maintained take Cameron Van der Burgh admits in a post swim interview to using extra dolphin kicks saying "it's not the moral thing to do, but says you either cheat or get left behind" is a case in point. What hope is there when people publicly admit there indiscretion.

I'm really confused as to what you mean by Meares leaning to the inside and provoking a natural reaction from Pendleton? Type 'Meares Gold Medal' into KZread and watch a replay of the race. Where is this lean you are referring to? I'm guessing you are perhaps British and have sour grapes?

He may not have cheated in the legal sense but morally and as a sportsman that's what I'd class it as. Hey I think its great that GB has done so well and we fell flat it helps to deflate any over inflated egos and makes us have a long hard look at ourselves but unsportsmanlike behaviour is as bad a cheating itself it has no place in sport. You never answered the question Irish or Scottish can't be both or do you need time to look it up because I know where I'm from.

There is NO lean by Meares BEFORE Pendleton comes out of the red, none, this is why Pendleton is relegated. I'm so confused how you can think otherwise? Do you use glasses when you watch TV?

But that IS illegal in swimming isn't it? So yes, absolutely, disqualify him. Don't see why they can't do it at the time, given all the underwater cameras, and they're happy enough to take medals retrospectively off people who cheat with drugs, so yeah, let's get him! You'd be getting another gold though... Trouble with latitude is there's always going to be debate. Before you know it there are accusations of bias and your integrity's gone. Get the rule book right, apply it consistently.

I have to laugh when Australian's come here to slate Pendleton on the back of her silver medal. You Aussie's must have been waiting fucking ages for your little moment. Lets be honest, you've won jack shit so far these games and that isn't likely to change any time soon. On that basis, have your moment and laugh at Pendleton if you so wish. After all, if the british cycling team fancy a laugh, they only need to look at where Australia are on the medal table.

OK - but in your job, do you apply the law, or act on your own whims about what's right & wrong? Personally I'd go for my whims, but I'd be wrong and get deservedly sacked. Meares has always treated cycling as a contact sport, is she unsportsmanlike? Some think so, you don't, same with Hindes. Within the rules? Must be, or they'd have been DQ'd. British / Irish: Honest answer - fuck knows. Dad thinks he's Irish, both his parents were Scottish, Mum's Northumbrian with a German gran. Mongrel.
