Victoria Mansion is a much-loved Portland landmark, but its significance extends far beyond Maine. Distinguished for its architecture and its extraordinary original interiors, it is among the most important historic homes of the nineteenth century anywhere in the nation. As an organization, our mission is to conserve, maintain, and restore this one-of-a-kind property and share its history with the public.

Thank you for a nice tour and wonderful stories of this home and it’s occupants. I am so HAPPY, that this glorious home was not demolished for a gas station to be built. This happen way to often here in America, they demolish to many BEAUTIFUL homes with such craftsmanship and history.. it makes me sick that so many do not care about preserving these spectacular homes. ❤️
90% original furnishings! Amazing. I do so love old homes. I'm so pleased it's mostly all original to it's time
Loved this. I'm from the UK and I love seeing the old houses in the US.
thank you for the great tour, always wanted to see the house. Grandfather took me by in the 60's before it was open to the public. My family has been in Maine since early 1700 if not before, i think before. We are all from the Winthrop area. grandpa had a potato farm and worked on the railroad, he retired in about 1965 or so. Long time residents of Maine.
I've seen this home a number of times while visiting Portland.. The photos simply don't do it justice. It is truly a well-preserved work of art. Class act gift shop too. See if it you can.. it's worth the trip!
So glad to see this jewel house well restored for the future generations to see and appreciate... The beauty of true art!
To think an architectural masterpiece such as this was almost demolished. Salute to all the people conserving this gem. Thank you Mr Thomas Johnson and Dr Meuser for transporting me back to an era gone by and learned so much from this one video than many other videos I've watched regarding Victorian homes. Keep educating us 👍
I love the history of this beautiful home and that you are breathing new life into this historical treasure.
Excellent tour. This gentleman explains the history of this home beautifully. Definitely on my bucket list.
I live next door! You should see it all decked at Christmas! Maybe they can make a video to share next year??

@@elisecooper1942 The mirror they have covered for room renovations is a diamond dust backed mirror, a process where silver was melted and used to cover the backside of a piece of glass. ... In this process the mercury evaporated leaving the silver. So gorgeous! Here is a pic! encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ2aG1v21D62ZScG3Wk3TIlXdqBgjmae0xYJQ&usqp=CAU

I can’t believe this beautiful piece of history was almost demolished for a gas station!! This is such a great video, thank you
What a gorgeous piece of architectural history . I was amazed at the beautiful craftsmanship in each room . So glad it is being beautifully restored.
Absolutely great tour of a priceless gorgeous house. Thank you!
This is a wonderful tour. I love seeing these old buildings and hearing the storied pasts they hold!
What a fabulous video tour! I own an 1889 Victorian home (in California) and am enthralled with the magnificence of the Victorian Museum/home you shared.
I enjoyed the tour and lecture. I just wish they’d used photographic equipment that allowed for better close-ups. It was kinda like trying to see things up close without your glasses on.

Plus there was so much excessive motion of the camera, that I was lightly sea sick by the end of this otherwise fabulous video....
Wow! A Carriage stepping stone is still on the street.
I’m no historical academician by any means but this is truly truly extraordinary. Thank you for sharing!
Magnificent home and a fabulous presentation but this really should be re-filmed in high definition
I would have loved to have been there watching these victorian houses getting built. It's a true art form.
The home is incredible...the story even more so...leaving much to the imagination. Thank you.
Been a while since I've visited - can not wait untill it opens again !💕 Thank you !

Wow wow wow! What a treasure, thank you for saving her!
This was an amazing tour. Great encapsulation of the home's unique qualities/architecture along with the history of the estate. Ninety per cent is an admirable amount when considering the original furnishings as part of the collection. That is very rare nowadays when it comes to preserving historical residences. Thanks so very much! Cheers, Darryl
Thank you for sharing the history of the home and the people that live there. The home is very beautiful . I love every minute of this video.

How absolutely wonderful lunch the house but the renovation project and how meticulous now thorough it's been in the fact that it's such a rare surviving relic of the past is just incredible I'm horribly impressed at everything that's being done and the house itself and would love to participate and restoring it with such an meticulous I it's wonderful to see something like that happening!!

Thanks for the positive comment, Deborah. My name is Tom not Ryan, however. This video was a joy to make. We are lucky to have this amazing gem in Portland.
I love these videos.
This was such an EXCELLENT experience! While my daughter was attending UNE Dental School I took a tour of this incredible house with my granddaughter’s school class. It was a wonderful tour for the children, but I wanted to know SO much more and to spend time perusing detail. Alas, that did not happen. One day, I hope to attend an event there during the holidays, or perhaps just take a tour with more time allotted as experienced here. As mentioned in the tour, the visual environment is so rich it is difficult to notice particulars in just one visit, or even during several years of restoration efforts. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video, all who were involved. I would like to know where Olive went when she left the house. I don’t think that was mentioned. I share the opinion of the gentleman, he was likely spot on about the reasons she left the house ‘as is’ once her husband died. She did not appear remotely contented in the image shown, nothing like the painting.

When Olive sold the house, she moved to the Falmouth Hotel in downtown Portland.
I thoroughly enjoyed this it is a beautiful beautiful home you are doing such a great job I really appreciate you for that well God bless and stay safe and thank you for showing us the very very top I also really loved your stories
Thank you. This was lovely, but I can't help be disappointed that you didn't show us the kitchen. I love seeing old kitchens.
What a lovely tour, thank you!
Bless conservationists like you. Thank you for your dedication.
Thank you so much for this very detailed tour, especially during COVID. Amazing historical home, real palace quality!
Fantastic !!! Thank you very much !!!
Loved this video tour, Dr. Meuser. You are so very knowledgeable regarding the architecture & furnishings of the time. Also sympathetic to Olive's position in her marriage. I do wonder where the children slept as you said the home only has 2 bedrooms. Or did I misunderstand?
Absolutely amazing. Thank you!
Excellent tour.
Thats a soul home with all the warmth dressed with good taste.
Beauitful Home, Wonderfully Narrative. Unscripted an if it was Scripted He told it Beauitfully. Forgive my rustic back woods sayings but I absoutly Loved his way of telling us about the House and Passion he has for helping Restore the Place is fabulous. Thank you Sir for giving us this Wonderful tour.

Awesome video! Very informative. I hope you release more videos Sir.
I stopped the video because of the poor quality of the video, the presenter Tom Johnson did a marvelous job that alone deserves better video quality.
