After constantly only seeing American gymnasts, it's nice to see others. Such a big difference!? So much more artistry and dance, verses the muscular machines of the USA. Good job!

  • @bagelized

“Muscular machines” shut up. Some of you can never praise gymnasts without degrading others just because they don’t fit your ideal “thin, balletic” artistic gymnast. Leanne Wong and Morgan Hurd for example are artists. But of course you just have to say “muscular machines of the USA” because it fits your convenient stereotype.

im loathing women's gymnastics cos 99.5% of them are not feeling the joy of the sport. Their grim and emotionless faces are tragic. From china to brazil to us to russia, all of them are not enjoying it. Its the federation's fault for strictly emphasizing technical perfection over passion. These girls are essentially flipping and tumbling zombies with the shortest expiry date. Hence, the word 'artistic' is irrelevant.

After watching these four performances, the brash offense of Russian coach Valentina Rodionenko does seem a bit daring and audacious, especially considering that the Russian team in 2021 is not as strong as it was in 2016 and especially in 2012. And even then, it lagged well behind the USA.

Bodies like that of Simone Biles and Katelyn Ohashi were uncommon in elite women's gymnastics until the past 6 years or so in the US. Bulky muscle and / or excess fat makes it more difficult to discern and appreciate the lines of the body. Many people, myself included, have stopped watching American Gymnastics because of this. It's not a matter of body shaming.
