@@sinastir7688not exactly, Chet has a better handle and is more mature in his driving and finishing ability. W looks more rough in every things he is doing, but he also has a better feel for the game, for the cuts, for the passing (aka basketball IQ). One important thing to mention is Chet already has one year in the league - not playing anf he is older. This is REALLY important, it shows that at the same age W is much better than Chet meaning from the end of the rookie year, VW will always be better than Chet.

@@yourmad2675 that's about what I've wrote yes, well not about external factors like team diff - this is just useless to be mentioned - more about game maturity. So let me explain more diligently for you: Today, Chet and Wemby can be compared. Wemby is more all-round type of player and Chet is more mature with a better attitude toward dribbling, shoots selection and finishing. But they have a difference in age and seniority in the league (despite being both rookies). Tomorrow Wemby will be no match for Chet it's certain. In his current role, Chet seems to be capped, there is not a lot more space to grow for him while Wemby is limitless.

Indeed. BUT. The sochan experiment has to stop ... Make him the 6th man and form a dynamic between wemby and vassel. The rest are extras. Just get random 3&Ds + a smart or a vet PG and they would be in POs this year already imo. Like i don't really understand the absolute need to tank, you already have a core that will work just find a way to acquire a good PG in free agency ... It's not like vanvleet was around lsat year or anything ... It's not like they could have make room for kyrie either... Or start contacting tray young or lamelo ball or something ...

I have no earthly idea why Pop REFUSES to start TJ at the point which is immensely frustrating, but I believe there is still a plan. Probably using this year as an extended G-League try-out to see what we got and get a high draft pick at the end of it all, then heads will roll with those that cannot contribute.

I guess you're not far from the truth :-) Even if Spurs could play better and lose less games (by far), the team wasn't ready to make a good playoff season so it was better to tank again and try to take 2 very good guys at the next draft (2 high picks to come), maybe Alex Sarr as the second "Twin Tower" and Zacch Risacher as a swiss army knife. If Spurs can do that, the team will only need a vet PG and trade those who don't fit the plan. At this point, Pop won't be so far from building another rising Dynasty.

Wemby is already a highlight reel. Like did you see him at the free throw line throwing the ball to the backboard to then jump and slam it mid air ? What the hell is that lol. And what's scary is that the more recognized he'll be the more free throw he'll get, and that coupled to his ability to score easy buckets from everywhere in the paint PLUS his insane jumpers around the 3 line means, imo, that he'll be the one to break the 100 point game. And the fun part is that he could even make a quadruple-double in the same game.

All the problems with the Spurs you mentioned, I’ve been saying since game 5 or so. I don’t really get why they’d tank this year so it’s not intentional in that sense (we have hella draft picks from the Murray, Derozan, Poetle, White trades). But the Sochan experiment really set the Spurs back, I’ve watched every game so far and it took a team that could’ve been .500 to a team that is bottom 3 in the league. I think they’ll start winning games because of Vic’s dominance, probably get close to 30 wins in a good second half of the season. Also, Pop is just letting them do whatever, what a strange approach.

What does having a mountain of draft picks have to do with tanking or not. You want them to blow it all and hard cap this teams ceiling? Thats how you end up like Dallas. A generational talent with a second round team. Has okc used their mountain of draft picks? No they built through draft and are practically contenders. It’s fucked up but prob best move to align top lotto picks with Vic, topic or Sarr or whatever. I think most people would play long game with you youngest team in league

the only actual criticism i ever see of him is like "oh he shoots poorly" but i mean most rookies shoot poorly (kevin durant shot sub 30% from 3 in his rookie season for example) and also he has to play with jeremy "ray charles" sochan at PG for most of his minutes. the spurs should be fined at this point and penalized for continuing to put Sochan out there and dimish their product like that. they need to start giving Tre Jones 30-35 MPG and use the rest of the season as a true evaluation of if Jones can be their starting PG of the future, and if not, that's their #1 need in the offseason.

I think Pop is just taking his time with getting Sochan experience as a facilitator. Kind of seeing if he can really do it like Draymond, but more so just knowing that even if he puts Tre in, we’re not going to win a championship, so just let guys get their reps in to expand their game. Pop has always done a great job of helping players develop complete skill sets as long as they put in the work. That’s why Kawhi can do basically anything now. Sochan might not become Draymond, but if we’re winning championships in say five years, nobody is going to remember these complaints

They do get wemby the ball…. He has the highest usage rate amongst all rookies and has a comparable usage rate to tatum, lebron and other elite players. This narrative is stirred by casuals who don’t know ball…. Have they missed him on easy looks? Yes… do they neglect him on the offence? Fuck NO. They had a pg in sochan, who’s used to playmaking with his back to the basket and was there to learn how to view the game from a different perspective so they are able to run plays from different positions on the court… im sick of hearing internet coaches that have never played or understood the game at a higher level talk like they know ball. They’re limiting his minutes, while throwing games because they have decent draft picks for the coming off season. Why would this small market team come out and try get a middle of the pack pick that will do them absolutely no good in the long run? Who was the biggest FA we’ve signed in the last 20 years? Lamarcus Aldridge? Exactly, we build through the draft. The same way they did in the early 00’.

Rookie of the year is an award you feel good about in your second year in the NBA and that's about it. If Wemby is as great as everyone says he is (I'm dubious), then he will have many more opportunities to pick up more important accolades than Rookie of the Year.

Cool passing is cool passing. But I don't know why so many commentators associate it with "high IQ". What's passable passing? It's get the ball to an open teammate, preferably one near the hoop. What's good passing? It's fake an opponent out by looking or facing away from the teammate you're about to pass to. All this doesn't seem so rocket-sciency to me. Why don't more players Magic, Nash, and Jokic out on the court then? Dunno. But just like 3s picked up after Curry, good passing seems to be trending up too. So it might be a cultural thing. And, of course, it's also dependent on the offense and defense strategies used -- as size gets shorter or slimmer and five-out spacing gets spacier, passing should probably go up.

He's better than some people think and not (yet) as good as some people think. He's had two stellar games, a couple of OK ones, but mostly bad games, which tend to get blamed on "his teammates won't pass him the ball". Try to look past recency bias. The truth is, he's been standing around behind the arc on offense far too much all season, until the last two games when he was more active near the paint, and thus was rewarded by more trips to the FT line. But if he keeps trying to shoot like a shooting guard from outside, his offensive presence will not bother opponents. So far this year, each great game was followed by a string of mediocre inefficient games. Let's see what January brings.
