It's so refreshing to see a person of her fame and stature be just a regular person. Simple values, zero conceit, being the first to thank others for elevating her. Thanks, Vicki. Long may you wave.

A beautiful woman. If you can do a character so well that people can't realize that is just an extension of the person that is pure talent.

Ernie Manouse is a rare interviewer of celebs who doesn't come across as intelligent, informed and friendly and not embarassingly gushy or obnoxious. Good guy. Also cute, which certainly doesn't hurt!

What the hell kind of hairstyle is Ernie donning? Looks like some kind of 70s/80s do-up...even in 2011 it was, to say the least, far out of date.

Touching John Wayne. I, a young second lieutenant was coming out of the Tan Son Nhut officers Club in the bright sun. Looking into the sun, I bumped into a large man and stumbled onto the ground. The man, John Wayne says “ Are you OK Lieutenant?”

I loved her delightfully cantankerous and impossible Mama on Carol's variety show in the 1970's, and I enjoyed "Mama's Family" in the 1980's ... even though the character changed demeanor drastically when they brought in Bubba and Iola (essentially, Thelma Harper went from a sour, short tempered biddy-- who was hilarious-- to a fairly perky character who loved to dance and sing and act goofy). Vicki has said that during the production of the sitcom, Harvey Korman convinced her to change Mama's personality because he believed a grouch would not be a likeable main character (!!!).

So many cool things about this interview. And Mama's Family is one of my least favourite shows, ever. I've always loved Vicki, though. Really love her "surfing" reference, the fact that she only watches old movies and educational programming, and just her down to earth personality. Wish they would have talked about $25,000 Pyramid and Dick Clark. That's my favourite game show and the tension between the two of them was so hilarious. I'd like to know what she really thought of that experience.

I listened twice, but maybe I heard wrong; did she say (in regard to her talk show), "...sing with Bing Crosby..."? Her shows was in the 1990's, and he was long gone by then. Maybe she was mixed up (who isn't at times) and she was thinking back to THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW? Or maybe I just didn't hear correctly.

oh my god. I didn't know that Carol Burnett was a criminal. Carol accosted Harvey Korman in the parking lot to try to get him on her show ! Carol apparently, man-handled that poor man and she probably flinged him into several cars until he was bloodied and dizzy. All that just to get him on her show. Well, that's what I get out of Vicki's description of how Carol wooed him onto her show. Now that this has come to light during this interview, I see Burnett doing hard time in the slammer !!

That's a lot of words to say "I don't know what 'accost' means". In less time it took to write that bizarre comment you could have looked it up and learned that VL in fact used the word correctly. Straight from the dictionary - accost ə-kôst′, ə-kŏst′ transitive verb 1) To approach and speak to, especially aggressively or insistently, as with a demand or request. 2 To approach or stop and speak to someone in a threatening way.
