    I’m digging the colour scheme, very appt for Thai! The seats also look old fashioned (it’s because they are) well cushioned and comfortable instead of these modern slim line stiff seats. Can’t wait for the Japan series! Thank you for the review 🙏🏼

    Another great review Kevin! One thing I would love to point out is why people like me have trust in you. The whole story about you being moved two rows with 2 empty seats next to you was not needed to be told for the reason that you mentioned that people might question that the airline knows you. But, you chose to tell the whole story and be honest there. That’s the mark of an honest and an anonymous reviewer which is seldom the reality on KZread. Forever your fan! 🤗🤗👌🏼👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    Took this same Thai flight in economy to connect to Qatar Airways in business a number of years ago (you're right about over-warm Indonesian airports). Was on a 787 though. My flight was full and I had someone ask me to switch seats with him so he could sit with an (adult) family member. I used my tried, tested & true approach of grinning widely, thanking him profusely for the offer but that I was very happy with the seat I'd specifically reserved. Always nonplusses the switch requester and he duly bvggered off.

    Another great review, thanks! Impressive that ground crew remembered you from check in and made the seat change at the gate proactively - that like never happens! I was travelling a lot with TG back in the mid to late 2000's to Europe every few months. They were always fairly solid. They swapped over to these 200ER's on the MEL-BKK route around 2007 which was a real let down after the A346. That aircraft (HS-TJT) was my most flown TG aircraft and I remember when it had that new car smell! Geez I wish TG had stuck with the livery that had the metallic purple - looked so much better!

    Don Mueang is often referred as a low cost carrier airport, in a kinda negative way. The thing is that, providing you only have one flight with no further connections and that you therefore just need to arrive to Bangkok, or that you just have one flight out and just need to leave Bangkok to reach your destination without any connections, and that you are not flying business or first classes, DMK with Air Asia can be a much more convenient hub compared to BKK. Immigration processes are generally much faster, as can be connecting with certain parts of the city. The airport is relatively basic, but offers some nice sitting areas with great views over the runways, platform and the golf course located between the two runways, and there is a decent choice of food. Air Asia, on the other hand, can match economy class of any other regional airlines, with the advantage of being able to select your preferred meal. To put it clear and with real examples: flying from/to Luangprabang to Bangkok costs me much more (for there three people we are in our family) with a much slower and with worse food planes when doing it to BKK, compared to DMK.

  • @tfft

    @tfft

    Ай бұрын

    You’re not wrong- but I’d rather wait 30 mins more in immigration in BKK than have to deal with the often absurdly overcrowded facilities at DMK.

    @@tfft I understand this could be an exception, but yesterday it took me 15 minutes as per my watch from stepping off the plane to stepping into my rental car, at DMK. Walking through the arrivals, passing immigration, collecting luggage, buying a SIM card, signing the car rental agreement and opening its door. 15 minutes. Not even in Singapore I have seen that. Today I checked in alone, there was one person in front of me through security, the queue at immigration was of 3 people... This was a Friday in early July with a flight departing noon. Amazing.

    Kevin, you are probably too young to remember but back in the 60s,70s and early 80s Braniff International used Flying Colors as their slogan and each plane was painted in a different color. I always liked their branding, which is why I use a photo of a Braniff 727 tail on my profile photo.

    No, there is 1st class on flights to Munich. Why? Is it a coincidence that the Thai King spends a large part of the year at his properties in Bavaria

    When Thai introduced their new First Class cabin a few years ago, they weren’t shy about why they did it. HRH The King typically uses chartered 777s with the new cabin on trips to Europe.

    What's the deal with WH Smith shops in airports? Seriously, i feel like all southeast asian airports have gotten one as of late, even when the actual cities don't have any branches in them

    Generally just in the countries with Anglo or Dutch influence, from my experience. I’ve never seen one in Thailand, Vietnam, etc.

    To some extent it's not that the crew are robotic, it's to do with their command of English.
