VIA Rail Sleeper - Roomette Tour
Take a tour of VIA Rail Canada's Roomette (Cabin for One), part of its streamliner fleet. Also walk through to the common shower and washroom. Plus some photos of the Open Section (Berths).

this is the best description of the sleeping accommodation on a via rail train ive seen in their sleeper plus class. great video
I took a 3 day trip from British Columbia to Ontario in a single sleeper cabin and it was absolutely one of the best experiences of my life! Although it was fairly expensive I would recommend it. You get to see everything along the way and 3 quality meals a day were included in the ticket.
Back in the eighties I remember the open sleepers being more private than that. The curtains were blue then. That's cool that there's private sleepers for one person. I like the personal toilet but at the same time sleeping in the same area where there's a toilet is a bit off putting even if there is a heavy duty lid covering the toilet. The fact that it looks like something that you would see in a prison is off putting too.
I rode via rail in 1972 it hasnt changed much
How is this still like 3x the price of flying lmao they buggin
Commode in the room is better than a toilet in a separate sardine can!
Looks like a jail cell
Between the in room toilet in VIA's roomette and Amtrak's roomette, VIA Rail's are so superior. No smell when down and they flush a lot better. You should try one next trip. No need to leave your cabin and no sharing with people who do not flush :)
Nice to see some of those old stainless steel cars still in service. I remember taking them to my grandparents back in the '90s.
Is there daily turndown service and room service in this class.
This was very helpful Ben, Thank you.
Was the room you showed, cabin #3? ... been trying to find a map of the layout of the rooms ... all the ones on viarail website, none of them have labels of the cabin numbers for the single rooms
Thank you for the video! Very helpful 😊. I have a question though, can you lock the cabin door from outside when you leave for food etc.
Thank you for this most informative video. I am taking this trip in a cabin of this size soon and your roomette tour answered most of my questions....was the bed heavy to lift up and down and is there a dress code for the dining room? I'm assuming we can use it as we have a "room".
I took the train from Toronto to Vancouver in one of these cabins and absolutely loved it. Wonderful onboard staff and food. It’s not like a cruise ship and and there’s always the clattering of the wheels and the gentle jostling of the cars but what a view and fabulous way to see Canada.
Isn’t there a saying “don’t deficate where you sleep”…
Thanks for making this video. It was very informative!
Nicely done step by step walkthrough. I just wish the cabin has its own shower stall like the one from Amtrak instead of sharing. The Amtrak cabin has better layout because the toilet is in a separated and enclosed room which also includes sink and shower. It's more like a RV style layout. So that I am not staring at the toilet when I am sitting down.
It's crazy to think people have been sleeping in that cabin since the 1950s. Was there a lot of squeaking while you were sleeping?
