AMEN to that Michael. 1989 was a Fantastic year in Eurovision. The Nordic Countries really represented this year especially Sweden, Denmark & Finland. Plus the LIVE Orchestra is sooooo missed. 😀

What a diva! We like to give eachother points here in Scandinavia. In this case it was well disserved.

2 conductors. Good song. Good voice. This was amazing.

Denmark with a red and white flag, singer dress in red, the guys in white, red in the title, and a good song, who can ask for more?

Birthe Kjær is known by all danes 🇩🇰 She is like the queen of danish top music.

@@escLIVEmusic1 I've just read your write up on Portugal's entry. Clearly that first trumpet worked his magic on several entries! Portugal wasn't strong enough in this field to do finish higher unfortunately.

What a pro she is and the song is definitely one of Denmark's best ever in the ESC! However, the no. 1 Danish song of all time didn't make it to the ESC in the Danish Melodi Grand Prix in 1960; To lys på ett bord. I'd give it douze points from Sweden even in 2019.

The whole world should be so joyfull and cute

Such a happy and fun song! What makes the performance better is how happy she looks being on the ESC stage. After placing 2nd place in 3 national finals, I think you'll be so happy after finally getting your ticket to the contest! Honestly, this would have been a great winner for 1989.

Denmark was also one of the big favorites to win and I suppose DR was so disappointed that it didn't win that they started losing interest in the contest which resulted in the declining results in the 90's.

Kan tydeligt huske hvor meget kritik den fik hjemmefra og så blev den flotte smittende melodi nr 3 og genialt med at henrik hoppede op på scenen.

Especially considering that Yugoslavia won with ‘Rock Me’ one of the worst songs of the year. This Danish Entry was the best song never to win the contest in its entire history. Greetings from 🇬🇧

A great ESC song - and the song had so many aspects to it...."old" and cherished birthe, the oldest boy-band in the world (which was actually the real writer, composer and conductor and not stand-inns) By the way: Litteraly " vi maler rød" means "we paint the town red" - but it means: lets party tonight

Best song ever from the Denmark 🇩🇰. Miss the time we could watching a real song show in all his concept . Great compositors, the true value of an live Orchestra and musics where we could easily ear the melodies without fireworks and screams. Congratulations Denmark and wish I could return to the past to join what we calling the Eurovision Song Contest .

So true. One of my farorite Danish songs ever. I'm Danish and a musician, and know all Danish songs. ;) This track makes me happy evertime I listen to it again and again and a.... :)

Loved this entry and totally deserved its third placing. Actually thought it was better than the Yugoslav and UK entries aas well.

Canción mítica, de una grandeza musical que puede traspasar galaxias. Tema brillante, genial y vibrante que podría recetarse como antidepresivo. Birthe Kjaer canta genial, guapa, elegante, derrocha estilo y personalidad. Su tercera posición con 111 puntos es infame, es superior a las otras dos. Una maravilla que no pasa de moda. Una gozada en 3 minutos. 12 Puntos.

I was 6 in 89, so I can't say I was paying attention to ESC when this was on, but I did get a tape a couple of years later with this song on it, and it's been stuck in my head ever since. It helps that I'm Danish and know the lyrics (which are really catchy). But also, after having looked up the winner and 2nd place of ESC 1989 I just don't know how this song placed below those.

Ok, so the gimmick with Krogsgard joining the gang on stage midway through the song is a bit cheesy, but who cares - the entire song and performance are cheesy, charming, and innocently fun. I just wish the director had shown us the nuances of the staging: the singer waving to the conductor, the conductor going "what? me?" and then starting to conduct again on stage - all of this is lost due to the static photography. Shame.

I think honestly it’s about love, red’s a colour associated with love and loving one another, she’s talking about turning a bad situation into a loving one if you read the lyrics. Plus Denmark is one of the last countries you’d consider communist, red was just a popular colour that year costume wise too.
