This is the second best song from this series with the first being "6 Different Ways to Die" by The Death Set from V/H/S 2 (mostly because both were made specifically for these movies. It would've been nice if songs by The Death Set for the credits was a running thing after the first two).

This movie was also the 2nd best movie of the V/H/S franchise in general since the 2nd movie. This really felt like the straight up horror tone of the earlier two entries which was nice to go back to

@@dong.corleone I'm glad someone else agrees! While I really enjoyed the previous films, they haven't reached that same level of quality and memorability as the second or even first film (not that the previous films were forgettable, I mean 94 gave us The Subject and of course "Hail Raatma." And all three were definitely a step up from Viral which almost ruined and cancelled the franchise. But they never reached that same level of consistent quality as 2 did). But while some people (like Nyx Fears for instance), didn't like 85, I always thought it was the best since the second movie.

Yeah I really liked it the first time around, but on a rewatch this might actually be a contender for my overall favorite VHS... Which says a lot coming from a big fan of the series in general... but I also thought Viral was pretty entertaining, and most people seem to think that one was shit ( 😂 ) so as always, your milage may vary. But for the record when I'm rating/ranking anthology movies, I'm usually looking at the relative strength of individual segments, as well as "liked more" to "like less" ratio. In other words, for example: if I moderately liked 2 segments (say both are close to 6.5/10) thought one was really solid (8.5/10) , thought one was ok but could have been better, (4.5/10) and the 5th was just dumb (1/10), I'd probably rank that higher than a film that had 2 okay segments (5.5) 1 boring segment (2/10) and one that utterly blew my mind. (10/10) I also tend to give bonus points for a creative / interesting wraparound, or one which actually tells an entertaining and coherent story itself... and double bonus points if that wrap somehow ties into one or more of the other stories... And this film not only does all the above... it more or less has two stories that function as a wrap because the first segment continues (and then goes Energizer bunny when you didn't think it could go any more... lol) Actually this is credited as 3 separate stories (tho the first 2 were written and directed by the same person) however they fit together so seamlessly it might as well be one story continued... and each segment is better and crazier than the last, which is even better. And then this overlaps with the "official" wrap that also keeps coming back, and closes out the movie. But the construction is almost fucking elegant, imo. And I thought both of those segments were wildly entertaining. One of them gets it's tone pitch perfect, and the other seems to genre hop a bit, in a fun way... (intentionally not saying which is which, in case anyone reading this hasn't seen it yet-- no spoilers! ...tho I would think most people on this page have probably already seen the movie... lol) Anyway the TKNOGD segment might be weakest in terms of actual horror punch, but it was still pretty interesting, a really cool concept, and at least tried to do something a little different. And the Spanish segment, while not my favorite here, was very well made, pretty "real" and voyeuristic feeling which gave it a fair bit of tension. And I liked the basis of that one, and I feel it's a mythology system that's a bit under-explored in horror, even though it mirrors certain types of "Christian" based stories, in terms of how it was presented... And honestly I'd probably rate it a bit higher, if it wasn't sandwiched in between those other two absolute bangers! lol And the ending of the film? That was too good. Figured out how to make something simultaneously bizarre, and horrific, and kinda funny... Killer final shot. (Actually the whole shot leading up to this awesome final visual was really cleverly done IMHO.) Immediately followed by this banger of a song... Oh and on that note, they got the 80s vibe really well on this one. At a couple points it's a little on the nose but the whole thing pretty muchreeks of the 80s, and the Total Copy bit more or less nails it's mimicry of 80s (to early 90s) television documentaries. (Actually TKNOGD felt a little more 1990-1993 to me, tbh... but that's probably close enough for anyone who didn't live it lol. Tho I suppose there were SOME outliers playing with that kind of tech in the mid to late 80s... but so much of that one segment screamed "early 90s" to me...) Honestly this just reaffirmed my love for this series, and I really hope they keep putting out stuff this good! 👍 PS-- Oh I also really love that they weren't afraid to make this one almost a full 2 hours. Which to be fair the first one was as well... but part 2 / viral dropped down to a much more typical "90ish min" runtime... a trend which wasn't broken until 94 and 99 started pushing into the 104 min range. But **110 minutes** and a full SIX stories? ... which paradoxically, even tho 3 of those stories feel like a virtually seamless continuation, because of the way they're broken up (and interspersed with the segmented wraparound) by the end you feel like you've just watched almost a dozen different stories... Like I said I love the construction on this one. I almost can't say enough good things about this VHS installment! ... so I'm gonna shut up now. lol But I guess I could've just said "I really agree," huh? 🤣

@@aaronmerrill4730 Yeah, bro. I really enjoyed each of those segments. They really feel like abandoned, horrific, forgotten VHS videos that were confiscated and forbidden by the government for many years. Like when IRL new discoveries see the light these days thanks to the internet and everyone can access them, like highly classified documents that were hidden by the government and then leaked. It also reminded me of crazy shit like Ricardo Lopez's VHS tapes where he openly speaks about his macabre plans and his hate for human kind. (Björk's stalker). It's crazy to think that those videos were property of the police for many many years and now everyone can watch them and freak out. It also reminds me of some lost media like Christine Chubbuck's s*ic*de video. Wow, it's crazy how you have a very specific ranking system. 📼📼📼📼📼 At first, I couldn't decide which one was my favorite but I guess my final ranking stays like this: 1. TOTAL COPY 😍 (Perfect!) 2. GOD OF DEATH 3. DREAMKILL 4. TKNOGD 5. NO WAKE/AMBROSIA Btw, TKNOGD looked more late '90s to me than 1985 but I just looooooved how they managed to make references to the current time (when she says "black mirror" and "eye phones" XD that was just WOW 👌🏻). Also, TOTAL COPY felt more like early-mid 90s to me. Sometimes I felt like I was watching an X-files episode (which adds a reason for it to be my favorite because The X-files is one of my favorite shows) and sometimes I felt like I was watching Unsolved Mysteries. They knew exactly what they were doing, and you can tell. It's like they had the perfect formula for an entertaining horror film: mix found footage stuff, horror, nostalgia, mockumentary, strange phenomena and ancient beliefs, and what do you get? VHS 85 of course! I also loved the ending scene, that's elegant and pure black humor to me! AND the final 80s rock song specifically made for the movie was like the cherry on the cake. 🍒 Btw, I watched VHS 94 the other day (I had great expectations about it) and it was just soooo boring. 🥱 Especially if you compare it to this masterpiece. The only segment I really enjoyed was Storm Drain and it felt so short. (hail Raatma! 😜) And yes, they are making a new VHS movie this year and it's going to be Sci-fi! My favorite genre. So I'm excited.

By Jeff Whitmire and Michael Bolly They’re headed for the lake They’re gonna make a break It was the perfect day, Then suddenly the bullets fly, And then a news room shakes From far below the quake An Aztec god awakes Arises News Flash they all die From an Old Wall of Tzomplatl, storms a mad quetzalcoatl, Like a genie from a bottle, Then the camera starts to glitch. The footage may get scary, cuz we’ve gone Pet Sematary, But the camera’s necessary, Hey you want some brownies bitch? Doppelganger, out of the night You’re gonna double your pleasure, double your fright. Doppelganger, try to survive, You’re gonna see it go down, in 1985. Performing on that stage She’s gonna boldly rage Against the coming age Of a new technology. Try to ignore those screams, Hes gotta face his dreams Because crime solving seems, To run within the family tree A cyber inquisition, think we need an intermission, Or a really good mortician, since our star’s been torn apart. Yeah soon you’ll see a vision, of a bloody soaked incision, Was this all a premonition, buckle in it’s gonna start Doppelganger, out of night, You’re gonna double your pleasure, double your fright. Doppelganger, try to survive, You’re gonna see it go down, in 1985. Doppelganger, out of night, You’re gonna double your pleasure, double your fright. Doppelganger, try to survive, You’re gonna see it go down, in 1985. (I was searching for the lyrics and just in case anyone else is curious? I'm going to leave them right here. I hope that's OK.)

Does anyone else agree with this or is it just me? Btw, Vivziepop should totally have Fizzarolli sing this song now that he quit working for Mammon.
