VHF SSB Sota Activation IC-705
I decided to haul the IC-705 and my Arrow Yagi with an amplifier up a local SOTA summit to see how many QSO's I could make using VHF SSB. Turns out SSB did better than FM!

Great video!
Thanks for keeping 2m alive. I've done some 2m SSB from a summit, just not many takers here, especially horizontal. I really like your 3d printed mount! 73

It’s a fun mode! If you’re not hearing anything on the bands, then get on the radio and make some noise!
Enjoyed video and agree with 705 comments. I can relate to your pack weight…carried my pack with IC 705 and WRC antenna etc up 3300. Elevation gain over 10 mile RT of Sheep Mtn west of Loveland CO this week. My first SOTA activation and once I figured out how to SOTA log all the hunters got credit and I logged my first SOTA! It has been your videos that got me started! This activation of yours was varied and challenging… going to try and activate a first time peak in WY on Sunday!

Glad to hear my videos inspired you! Yeah, the 705 is a wee bit on the heavy side. Good for a maximalist day of activation.
