I think what is remarkable about this scene..this is the happiest Vhagar looks in the series. Laena Velaryon treated Vhagar like a close friend.

I think Vhagar had a gentle soul even though she is a dragon. I think she truly liked Laena, maybe she reminded her of Visenya who she had a really strong bond with. I think Laena really saw a friend in her and not a weapon like many did

Laena was good for the old war dragon. She was kind and knew dragons are wise and not slaves. Having a kind person as her rider probably had Vhagar very mellow, plus laena was said to fly with vhagar like everyday.

Targaryans are a TINY bit heat resistant. George said that Targaryans love heat, they'll take baths hot enough that other people would find it scalding. But that's about the extent of their heat resistance. They aren't fire retardent, they just have a slightly higher heat tolerance than anyone else. What happened with Dany and the birth of her dragons was a one-off, highly magical event. She even gets burned later on a normal fire. What happened when she killed the Khals in Vaes Dothrak is basically lazy fanfiction by D&D.

Aemond is literally Visenya reincarnated in male form. Laena also had that adventurous touch that Visenya had, which is what Vhagar seems to choose in riders. Rhaena is softer, Vhagar wasnt the right dragon for her.

This scene is important in a way not a lot realize, because in the end those two dragons who seem to bear no ill towards each other will end up being the death of one another due to the agendas of their riders. It’s tragically poetic, really.

I do like the variety the showrunners gave to the dragons, and this scene pretty much demonstrates that perfectly. You can tell just by watching how they fly. Vhagar, being the largest dragon in the world, is essentially a tank. She's all power, moving in smooth, fluid strokes. Caraxes meanwhile is a lot leaner and more aerodynamic, so he's able to pull off tighter turns, steeper dives, and can be a lot more acrobatic.

Caraxes always seems like he's laughing to me when he comes through Vhagar's fire. This is how dragons play.

These dragons have been flying side by side for generations.

I would give anything to ride Caraxes. I know dragons aren't real, but if they were I'd claim the blood wyrm. He's by far the most impressive dragon I think.

@@anatoldenevers237 It's just my opinion, but I don't think Balerion was all that impressive. All he had was his size really. They don't say he was a great flyer, he wasn't loyal or anything, just that he was big.

Vhagar & Caraxes, two extremely powerful Targaryen Dragons, flying together just like the days when their riders were brothers Baelon & Aemon Targaryen. Tragic how circumstances eventually pushed them to opposing sides of a nasty civil war.

Such a shame this theme wasn’t included in the album

@@indigovinyl2445 Diego Mitre has this theme on his KZread channel, so naturally I downloaded the MP3 of it 😂 It’s such a badass theme.

I much prefer them respecting these beasts and having fun like this than using them to kill. Sunfyre was absolutely beautiful and so young and sweet. To hurt that dragon badly, hurt my soul.

I love caraxes screeches and roars.

Award-worthy scene when Daemon walks through the fire and his dragon emerges is beyond amazing

Side note though - it is so sad that here Vhagar and Caraxes seemed to be so used to each other and at peace and years later they’ll be tearing each other to shreds.

Love this scene, the music goes so well with it.

Love this of Laena with Vhagar it really shows that they a connection. and Laena really loved Vhagar. Especially with the other scene of Vhagar and Laena. Vhagar is confused in what Laena wants. :( a sad scene T.T

I love how the sound and speed conveys the difference in size Caraxes is more high pitched and swift sounding when he swoops, Vhagar has these Deep Bellows like an elderly crocodile, and she seems to swoop slower due to her size

I feel sympathy for Vhagar. I feel like after what Laena made her do to her she was probably depressed and was done.❤

1:06 through 1:09 is the best shot for gauging their differences in size. The sound of their speed differences to is just..🤌

It's interesting how Caraxes has webbed back legs. Seems almost like a fighter jet. And the speed/aggression she took those G forces in that dive was really cool. I have a feeling she's going to be vicious in the dance of dragons.

The scene where Caraxes flies through the fire of Vhagar is interesting, makes me wonder if Daemon is a true dragon like Dany in GoT where they say "fire cannot kill a dragon". Or is it just that Caraxes blocked the flames? I do recall reading somewhere that Daemon was referred to as the last 'Dragonlord' (not dragonrider) of Old Valyria.

No.. point that they wanted to show, is that Caraxes is THAT fast.. he can fly through ring of fire without burning his rider. Which will be important later in the show.

One of the best scenes of the series. Caraxes making Vhagar have flash backs of better days with Balerion and Meraxes.

They are terrified as much they are amazed. This display evokes the power of old valyria who once ruled them. Back when the behavior tolerated in westeros now would have triggered a the freehold sending a dozen or more dragon riders with army behind them quash any displays of disloyalty.

Foreshadowing another flight :D

It's crazy to think... Daemon knows how to navigate the air around Vhagar better than anyone. He probably flew alongside Laena hundreds of times. Perhaps that is his advantage when the time comes for... well... if you know, you know.

Consider these two dragons will light up each other like “Christmas lights” above god’s eye.

The musical score for this scene is incredible. Such power, such romance.

As much as I like HOTD, the way some of these characters say _DRACARYS_ hurts my ears! Edit: OK, just to clarify a few things! I have a problem with the way they punctuate the syllables in _Dracarys,_ not the actual volume itself.

Scream that louder! House Velaryon as a WHOLE deserved better. The disrespect this fandom (and writers) have towards a family that keeps Rhaenyra's ass alive is crazy to me.

My complaint about this series is that it feels so rushed, I don’t have enough time to really care about the characters. Adding more moments of Daemon and Laena would have made my care more that she died tragically. I wanted more moments of Ser Strong as well.
