VGED: Intro to the GED Formula Sheet

The fifth video in the VGED Algebra series, designed to teach GED students the fundamentals of algebra.
The GED formula sheet is a fabulous tool provided by the testing service. However, it will only help you if you know how to use it. Follow along with other GED students as Kate shows you how to use the formula sheet in perimeter and area problems of low to medium complexity.

Instead of messing with the the improper fraction and trying to figure out how to convert it on the culculater, I just converted the fractions into decimals before starting to solve it. And got the same answer.

Yes!!!! I love it. Any time two things are EQUIVALENT in math class, you can feel free to trade out (substitute) one for the other. Mathematicians frequently do this, flipping from one form of another into another that's more convenient for them. You're behaving like a mathematician! :)

@@Fiberleo Yeah, I got it in December 2020. I did a civics test, which is required in arizona, and is easy. That first test gave me the uplift to know that I could do it and do it in subject parts. Later, I did reading and writing which is reasoning through language arts, then after a few months of reading I did social studies and then after a few more months of slacking off and then getting back on the ged, I did 1-4 hour studying of math when I could. I wasnt confident with the math part, but this video really helped pointing out the formula sheet and that i didnt have to remember everything because the sheet was there to remind me, so I kept learning on my book and math turned out to be my best score, I scored in the 70% of all high school graduates. You dont need to get everything perfect, just learn arithmetics(basic math)and up to the algebra portion. Functions and the coordinate plane like intercepts arent as crucial to passing either, just review those and you can pass with a good score if only you can learn the algebra portion.👍🏻 Its not a race either, everybody is different and anybody can pass it, itll just take others more time than others.

@@fullmindstorm Great story.. I'm stressing out with math I think that out of all the 4 Subjects Math is the hardest one... Hopefully, I can pass the test too.

Mam, in question number 2, you wrote the area was 45 square centimeters, but you wrote the length of the rectangle was 6 inches. So should the answer be in inches or centimeters?

Nice catch, Fariha! I should have have all the measurements in inches and/or square inches. That was a mistake on my part. I'm sorry.

30:48 Why arent you moving up to the nearest decimals. 7.07 7 is bigger than 3 So I am confused?

Good question! And one a lot of students have. Because this problem says "round to the nearest hundredth" and this number ALREADY ends at the hundredths place, there isn't actually any rounding to do. If I round it to 7.1, I'm not following directions because that's rounding it to the TENTHS place. Does that make sense?
