Best damn Pluto video I have ever seen.
Fun fact: Charon was named after the ferryman of the same name, of the river Styx in greek myth, *but accidentally so.* The guy who discovered/named Charon wanted to name it after his wife, but make the name sound more "science-y." This is likely why both the pronounciation KAI-RON/KAIR-ON and SHAIR-ON are deemed acceptable, as the former is literally the name of the greek mythological figure and the latter is what the discoverer intended.
@cameronritchie4073
Ай бұрын
Hate to be both the nerd emoji and the know it all, but the pronunciation KAI-RON would generally be better better attributed to the centaur Chiron most known for training Greek heroes such as Achilles and Jason. Also, feel free not to respond to this, I don’t care, for some reason I just had to correct someone on something meaningless. Nothing personal.
@NopeNaw
Ай бұрын
@@cameronritchie4073 It would seem that way if you only look at the english spellings of the names. If you look at the phonetic form of Chiron, the "ron" part is denoted with a schwa sign, making it closer to "ren". To make it even more confusing the word that the name quite literally is ("hands") in greek isn't even pronounced with a hard K sound, but sounds more like "h", and the ron part there does sound like "ron". There's always going to be instances like these when you have two languages with alphabets that don't line up neatly referring to the same thing. The fact that the names are very similar doesn't help.

I find this fitting because Pluto was the Roman god of the underworld, so it’s fitting that a king would have his ferryman always by his side.

Actually, the discovery of Pluto in 1930 turned out to be an incidental finding as the perturbation in the orbit of Uranus that needed to be explained by a ‘Planet X’ would require far more mass than Pluto. So it wasn’t based on the calculations. It was just chance it happened to be there. Kinda even more interesting when you consider how freaking big space is and how small Pluto is.

This seems like a question you could tackle: By the definition of a planet that Wren gave, is Neptune not a planet either? Pluto's orbit intersects with Neptune's, so they are both in the same "neighborhood" celestially speaking and Neptune hasn't swallowed up all the Kuiper belt objects either, so does it not also fail the planet definition test?
Tom Cardy's 'H.S' has brought me back to this video, Pluto's been getting a lot of love again lately!

I think Wren did it in a way to lead other Pluto Planet fans to accepting it's new factual status without making anyone feel condescended or being mocked. This way they'd much more easily go, "OOOOOh that's why, the Kuiper belt exists!" instead of ignoring the facts. Also it pulled in people like you and I who accepted the reclassification and we're expecting some cherry picked information or other side step to justify other beliefs. Which also is an example of the emotional connection we have to knowledge and opinions, so overall Grade A way to pull in several different audiences and provide a solid education with amazing visuals, I learn a lot more about Pluto than I thought I would, it's a cool ass dwarf planet.

That's not exactly correct. After Neptune was found to have a particular orbit that could be explained with the gravitational influence of a certain mass (not too different from the mass of Earth if I'm not mistaken), it was theorized the existence of an undiscovered planet, Planet X. So Planet X is technically "the planet who mainly influence Neptune's orbit". When Pluto was discovered, some thought it was Planet X, but it was observed that its mass wasn't enough to explain Neptune's orbit, so it became Pluto, the 9th planet, and the search for Planet X continued. When Eris was discovered a similar thing happened, but again, Eris wasn't enough to explain Neptune's orbit, so first it was called the 10th planet, and then it was demoted to dwarf planet alongside Pluto. As of today NASA has debunked Planet X existence and alternative explanations to Neptune's orbit exist, but there are people still supporting the idea of an additional planet in our system.

Planet X is not Pluto. Has never been. Planet X is for tenth. Pluto was instantly known to not be big enough to perturb Neptune. Not enough mass to create enough gravity. So now we wait for them to find planet X. Should be rocky. up to 15 times the size of earth. If you want to go down the rabbit hole look up how many of the scientist who have claimed to have found it are alive. Also try googling Nibiru or Planet Nibiru. It's a interesting conspiracy.

Your Mountains video was great, but this one earned a Subscribed! Terrific! Oh, and Puget Systems computers are also terrific!
