So did you find out why the pump was cutting out? I have the same pump and have heard mixed reviews regarding metal shavings from poor machining/assembly. After seeing the state of the end cover on your pump I’m going to completely strip mine to clean it up. Thanks for the video 👍

Great video sir. I have a vacuum pump and I went to use it and usually it works fine to change the oil before every use. I wasn’t changing the oil after every use but I did change it before but anyways when I cut it on it just hums? Would you have any suggestions? Thank you.

Mine eventually had this problem too. I attributed it to a failed starter capacitor or switch. I got a refund and bought a new one.

I just bought the very same Vevor 1hp vacuum pump on Amazon.First observation when it got delivered, the picture on the box didn't correspond with the one showed on Amazon until I opened it and gladly it was! (humm...)But the instruction manual says it's a 3/4 hp,7cfm and 370ml oil maximum capacity ( with 500ml oil in two bottles in the box...humm again). The identification plate on the motor say otherwise... I'm just more confuse. Can you tell me what is what before taking Prozac?

Yup, my box, manual and nameplate all disagreed on the specifics too. I don't actually know the specs of mine for certain. I'm happy with the performance though!

The springs pushing the blades/vanes out against the edge of the chambers would close the gap. I don't know how much of the blades could be worn away before the pump would stop working entirely.

Is that plastic piece at 6:00 part of the oil pump? The oil has to get from the outside of the vacuum pump to the spaces where it's needed inside the pump somehow.

I can't find a good frame in the video to show it, but I recall a small hole in the first stage that leads to under the surface level of the oil sump that allows a small amount of oil to seep in and be carried through. That little plastic bit at 6:00 is just to fill the key in that shaft, as far as I can tell.

Yep! They both lead to the same sump.

    any electrical wiring diagram?

It's pretty simple inside. There's a centrifugal starter switch and capacitor and an overtemp cutoff switch.

I know you made this video some time ago, did you solve the problem? I'm wondering, if you had another second stage to bolt into the "two stage vacuum pump assembly" could you make a functioning three stage pump?

I never did get to the bottom of the problem with this pump. A few weeks after this video the motor burned out. I got a refund and bought a slightly larger version that has worked perfectly well. It still gets hot, but doesn't cut out from overheating. I'd imagine you'd get quickly diminishing returns by adding further stages. It wouldn't pump down any faster, and the quality of the vacuum would be limited by factors other than the number of stages. Getting deeper vacuums would be done with a turbomolecular pump, since at these low pressures air molecules act more like balls ping-ponging around inside the volume rather than a gas.
