VETUS HYDRAULIC STEERING on our BOAT 101 | YACHT REBUILD WEEK 76

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

(Ep.84)
So it's that time of our boat build..... Steering! First things first... we need a mount to mount our trust hydraulic cylinder on.. & it needs to be STRONG! So that's exactly what we did by making a plug out of fiberglass. Once that was done. We drilled the hole to insert our wheel. Ricky gets done to explaining how our hydraulic steering system set up will be!
See ya next week where we put all of this to work!
Thanks for watching, don't forget to subscribe below if you haven't already & give us a big thumbs up as well as share this with all your friends & family!

My Mercedes SL500 has a hydraulic suspension that runs at 2,000 psi. I use those same compression fittings to repair my hoses when the blow. The car is 16 years old, so they blow often. Those fitting are rated for 10,000 psi. They will never fail.

I have two Vetus MTC72 rams on my cat. They need replacing every couple of years as the shaft gets damaged by salty water. The track rod ends that Vetus ship also rust to buggery, though they do sell a SS one at a crazy price. A Vetus rep recently told me that these rams are no supposed to be mounted externally, and that if it must be mounted externally then a gaiter should be used to protect it.

Thanks guys appreciate the video and the time and effort that goes into this aswell as restoring a boat 🤯 👏 i have restored two boats a hunter 701 at 23 feet and a jeanneau sunlight at 30 feet. The last finishing touches end up taking the longest as these are usually the bits you see or use on a dailly basis. Remember on my small 701 she had no rigging as it had been stripped to replace by the previous owner who didnt get round to it! The stainless rigging wasn't the main issue but once we got the mast up it was taking the time to sail her and work out were the deck hardware would go like blocks and pulleys.

Always amazing! It's so new to me! After its all installed and all, will you use something to protect the hydraulics from the UV rays and saltwater environment? You have always been very meticulous about every single thing on the boat, high quality and well built etc, I am just curious what you will do to ensure that the steering systems last a long time. Thank you for explaining the bypass system, I have a better picture of how it works. Again, job very well done! many thumbs up!

Hi there. Nice steering mount you've build..!!.. But my advice for the hydrolic (copper) steering pump and the plastic hoses is, please cover them.!!, salt sea water and sun wil be so nasty on them..so they wear out very fast. My sugestion is, to make an L shaped cover (fiber and epoxy,) to put over the stearing pump and hoses.. succes and Greetz.NL

Hi guys. Just wondering if you're fitting two rams or is there a linkage between the rudders?. What specs were you going on that made you go for that particular pump and cylinder combo? Lastly, is not having a non return valve a bad thing? Some feedback from the rudders may be good I'm thinking. As always it is great to see your fantastic progress. Cheers

Ricky was pissed because you wouldn't let him take a sticky off the wall. 😂😂😂 Question, since you are using hydraulics on the boat, is a hydraulic windless more efficient/practical? What type of windless do you have?
