With the help of American Veterans Archaeological Recovery (AVAR), American Veterans suffering from the mental and physical wounds of combat reintegrate into civilian life by performing rehabilitation archaeology. The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Dude thanks for your service, and sorry to hear of your diagnosis. As a fellow veteran, I hope your time left is spent fully living the best life you are able too. Going to Chickamauga Battlefield is a very humbling place to visit like all historical battlefields. Best wishes to your travel plans

Sir, enjoy your trip to Chickamauga and don’t forget about Missionary Ridge, Ringgold Gap, and Lookout Mountain. All are in the vicinity. As a fellow veteran, I wish you the best travels and really take in what the battlefields have to offer.

As a veteran I always felt sorry for those who never served and don’t understand the honor and camaraderie that happens in the military. And this is great program.
"History is beautiful"...who better than one of our own amazing veterans to remind us of that.
this is an amazing program. I am glad that these veterans and the Park service joined forces to acomplish this task. I am not a veteran but I apre appreciate those who have served.
If we don't understand where we have been we are less equipped to understand where we are going. Bravo to AVAR, ABT and NPS for professional, caring and important excavations.
Saving history is very important. I am happy to see the park service recognizing that importance applies to non NPS persons.

Interesting video!! Having visited that battlefield many times (I live about thirty minutes away) I recognized many of the locations shown. Good to see such a worthwhile program going on there.

The regiment I served in the British army was at bunker hill.

Interesting and moving, but I kept waiting to learn what artifacts the vets found. Half of the story seems to be missing.
