Veteran 1909 P&M (Phelon & Moore) Motorcycle On the Road Testing
After Fitting new Cam and Half Time Pinion I noticed the rear wheel bearings were loose which turned into the usual drawn out fix. I could not get them adjusted properly so I took it all apart to see why. With all the space taken up with 1/4" balls they did not rotate when you turned the axle. just skidded around. So I removed one ball each side and the balls seemed to rotate more freely and allowed better adjustment.
With the new cam I can at least now get the engine to idle better but the power is a bit less and I stall on my test hill. I think I can get a bit more power by fitting a little bit stronger spring to the Atmospheric Inlet Valve. This can be fraught with danger as it also has the effect of making starting harder as well. Bit reluctant to fiddle too much as it starts so well now.

What's the lever you keep fiddling with do please?

That is the gear lever. The bike has 2 primary chains and the lever operates clutches to engage either one or the other clutches. Unfortunately it slips a bit so I have to hold it in gear. Normally I use an inner tube rubber band around the gear lever and ignition advance lever behind it yo hold it in gear.

Thanks that explains it, I couldn't understand why/why you were holding it for.@@davidradloff4776

@@davidradloff4776 interesting way of doing gear changes using a clutch per gear with two primary chains. Thanks for the explanation.
