    My grandfather on my mother's side wasn't in D-Day...but he did survive Pearl Harbor. The opening scene of Saving Private Ryan was...very hard for him to watch. Had to pause it several times. But he didn't quit. Funny thing about him, he smoked three packs a day from the forties to 1989 when my mother got pregnant with me, and she told him that if he wanted anything to do with me, he had to quit. He immediately quit, cold turkey. His generation were built different.

    Eisenhower specifically had a small prepared speech rather than a letter. "Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops, My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone." Thankfully much like the speech that was prepared had the moon landing failed it was never needed.

    I have a great uncle who was a runner for the allies sending and receiving messages - it was a tough job. Next one is "Cliffs of Galipolli" ANZAC Day (Australian version of vetrans day) is commemorated in conjunction with the landing at Galipolli. This will be played loud and pround en route to the dawn service on the 25th April - lest we forget! There are 2 episodes of "Cliffs of Galipolli" on Sabaton history

    My Dads 2 older brothers were there oldest jumped into Arnhem other was in Royal Navy pounding the beaches

    Fun fact. The tank used by the band in the Music Video is an actual Centurion MK I and is also a premium vehicle inside World of Tanks with the Sabaton as it's crew and voices

    Many movies, games, documentaries etc. But Indy's and Sparty's 24 hours coverage of D day is the best, especially the witness accounts that dont usually get mentioned. The british and canadian soldiers being surprised that the locals werent that happy to see them and there were as many afraid of them as there were those happy to see them, because they were bombing their homes and bringing the war to their towns etc. The british civilians waking up at night because their houses were shaking as thousands of planes flew over them. But better than any documentary are the radio broadcasts of the time and i highly recommend everyone to look them up on youtube. Of course the famous adress to the soldiers of the expeditionary force but also all the broadcasts of the exiled governments to their occupied countries and resistances, the members of the press describing the scenes and their experiences from the ships and the planes. No documentary can match that. Just imagine waking up to that stream of news or just turning your radio at home after work or whatever and you hear that all this horrible war business is comming to an end. People in occupied countries woke up to the news that hope is coming.

    The World War Two channel, which Indy is one of the hosts of, did a 24 hour live stream special of d-day. Which was far better than anything that was ever done on TV. Worth a watch if you are interested, not good for this channel because it is 24 hours long but it is highly educational.

    i grew up (1993 -2000's while E/50th Reenacted) drinking with Wild Bill / Babe / Shifty / Jack Agnew (filthy 13) while Maj Winters smiled and shook his head drinking his pepsi. i got the drunken version from Wild Bill on how he REALLY earned the nickname Wild Bill on D-Day it's not in any of the books or series and very few know the story. was present when MAJ. Winters read the letter from Tom Hanks asking to make the series.

    Don't worry about aging yourself. I have BOB and the Pacific on DVD that I watch over and over. Now I'm just trying to find Masters of the Air on DVD. Already watched it on apple

    My grandpa Lawrence Alvin Divert he lived in michigan, he was in the bloody first, landed in Omha beach first wave artillery shells, firing motor firing concussion shells that exploded mid air killing a lot of men... he couldn't process what was going on and just pushed himself an 18-year-old in his platoon. He never made it home, and he couldn't do anything about it but prayed for his family... 7 days after dday, my grandpa was shot in his arm by an 8mm mauser round. My grandpa was born in 1918 and passed on in 1987. Dad tried to get him unfolded, but he would never tell his story. The only time he would say something was when a german soldier pissed on him and he wanted revenge and they were heading to a town by time he got the a platoon of M4 Sherman's where around the corner and all he said was I let a damn german pissed on me and wouldn't talk about it... but every time it stormed and crack of thunder or fireworks, he would be in a corner rocking back and forth, scared from the 88s Roaring and bombs going off... It's honestly really sad he went through that, I can say he went to hell and back. If he was still here, I would look at him and tell him I'm very proud of you, Grandpa, and hug him... the day he passed was at home. My brother was inside and ran out and told my dad and his grandma he was sleeping on the ground, and they both ran in and found him dead on the floor from a heart attack and im afraid the memories he indured is still huaghting him... rest in peace, Grandpa Lawrence A Divert, thanks for answering your country's call for whom you loved... we're having problems with the cemetery where he's buried here in adrain michigan they will put flags on every veteran except for my grandpa, so I'll put one on his grave and they take it out... im ashamed of people nowadays disrespecting our veterans!

    And even in modern times we have dictators for whom human life means nothing. Stalin sent as many Soviet soldiers to die against Finland alone as the USA lost in the whole ww2.

    its funny that the musicvideo you watched is in fact an ad for world of tanks and there premium tank and so came out much laiter than the song im honestly impressed with it and the way it works props on sabaton and the world of tanks team for making it work so well
