Vespa GTS300 Super (RST22) - First Ride Out

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video, we have the first ride out of the Camerman's new Vespa GTS300 Super (RST22). He's had it a couple of weeks and today is the first day that he's had the opportunity, and weather, to take it out. It's a brand new '23 model. Vespa released this in late 2022 with RST22 standing for Restyled 2022. I believe that this is more than restyling, with quite a few cosmetic and mechanical changes. The Camerman's now got two red, Italian, Icons with the Fiat 500 in the background.

Amazing scooter, iconic, unique. This 300 super is really a piece of art. I would go for a white color but also black and red are amazing.

There are some great colours. I really like the orange. I went for the Dragon Red as this bike was available at a great price. It is a great colour. I now need the weather to get a few miles on it...thanks for your comment.

I am 5ft7 and was wondering about the seat hight, also I am a above knee amputee so was think this scooter would be doable as I can brake with both hands and don't need to change gears

@@johnnyboy1586 the seat is not that high, the only thing is that the body of the scooter is large. You can easily get an idea in a showroom, just sit on a Vespa and see how you manage it. Before buying, make sure that in your country you can legally ride a motorbike with your special need.

Bellisima! I had an 07 GTS, was going to upgrade to the 300, but found that the BV 400 was a much better deal. Enjoy!

The BV 400 is a nice looking thing. I've always wanted a Vespa, so needed to get it out of my system. I did get a great deal on it.

Beautiful bike! Get a front fender mudflap to prevent chipping in turn rusting of the underside of the bike if you're going to ride in the wet. Or wax the underside.

Thanks. I do plan to tackle the issue of chips and rust before it has a chance to set in.

You are 100% correct. I tried them on, and then let someone else have them. I could only imagine the damage they would cause.

When you lift seat there are 2 spigots on front rim of seat pan. Put helmet loop over and close seat to secure.

I'd like to see you treat your vespa with Acf50 ,as I've had my vespa 2 years now ,and simular to you it's garaged and I never go out in wet conditions ,but not familiar where and how to apply the Acf50

I'm hoping to do the ACF50 within the next couple of weeks. I've been thinking about how I will tackle this so that I get to all of the places where these things are known to rust.

It's a good idea to take the battery out and treat the cavity it sits in as that's quite susceptible ( I spray ACF-50 into the lid and then apply with a paintbrush). Also a front mudguard extender will protect the underside from stonechips where the rust starts to bite. I recommend the SLUK UK kit which includes a rear version which sits behind the rear wheel and protects the area behind the numberplate from the same damage.

Thanks for the tips. Looking at where these are prone to rust, you're definitely right about the battery compartment. I have also considered the mudguard extender. I've also thought about trying some paint protection film, just for the area behind the front mudguard. Hopefully I can take on tyhis job in the next few weeks.

@@MotorcycleFettlersI had a Vespa 300 for about 5 years. I put paint film protection where stones would strike from the front wheel. So directly behind the mudguard where the notorious seem is, and underneath the scooter. I didn’t get any rust at all. Also treated the battery compartment as mentioned. Hoping to get a new Vespa soon and will do the same again, but this time I will add a SLUK mudguard extender.

I was looking at a discussion on plastic protectors that you can attach. That did make me think about paint-protection film. I think you're right that it's a good idea. It's a shame that Piaggio have not thought about what could be done, given that it's such a widely-known issue.

The chrome around the controls is really gaudy and cheap looking. And since it's in a semicircle it's guaranteed to catch the sun and reflect it into your eyes. (Something you don't have to worry about in England) I would like to see more black trim on these scooters too. But a great little machine. Thanks for the ride.

Interesting you traded in a G310 for this, I'm considering chucking in my Himalayan against one. Realistically the Vespa is quicker than either, is better built and can still handle rough terrain as long as you don't need to smash it over rocks and logs. Have you checked the service intervals on the current 300s though? 6k mile belt change interval is pretty rough!

I’ve not run the Vespa in, yet. Only managed 100 miles. I’ll get out now the weather is improving. You think it’s faster than the GS? I thought the GS had a good turn of speed. It will be a long time before I hit 6k miles. I’ve always fancied a scoot. I don’t think I’ll have it too long. I’m of the age where it’s time to get through all the bikes I thought I wanted.

@@MotorcycleFettlers yes I've probably been unfair to the G310 by saying the Vespa is quicker, it's probably even off the mark but not past 30mph or so. Enjoy your bike swapping journey then!
