Over the past year I have given away at least 8 dust bin bags of clothes. These clothes are sorted out, the best clothes stays in the uk or sent to Eastern Europe and the worst of the clothing are sent to Africa. Those free clothes FREELY given, are purchased by people in Africa. So these second clothing distributors are making millions.

Excellent video. I lived in Liberia for two years on a work contract and fell in love with the people and the bush. The country is filled with amazing business opportunities if one can operate in this setting. Developing nations are not easy per se, but the payoff can be huge on multiple levels if the business fits.

What an absolutely terrible situation. Why is the government not giving the Liberians help to produce their own food.

In my opinion, the Liberian government probably needs to initiate a "National Cold Chain Policy" and provide incentives in the form of loans, tax holidays, etc., to the common people for constructing cold storages in Monrovia and other parts of the country for preservation of the produce. The aforesaid initiative could also help to create livelihood opportunities for the native youths. This is just a humble suggestion from my end. Lots of love and regards. Thanking you 🙏

Well, the government does run the national cold water policy. It's not much, but it's something 🤪

There is no need to even look at products that are heavily imported; consequently, the locally grown product like pepper, cassava, etc. are increasingly difficult for local marketers to obtain in bulk without wrestling at the bulk point of sale , this is how bad the local market for Liberian food has become. I hope there is some initiative in place to embark on a nationwide agriculture program for food sustainability. Let the current government do its research and go back in time to look at the agriculture blueprint of the late President William R. Tolbert that was geared towards food sustainability.

So, the Liberian government is instructed to stifle the local markets in favour of foreign markets. So the government imports as much as it can to the detriment of the people.

This is sad, that’s y countries like Rwanda prospering because they are able to make their own decisions and are not allowing others to dictate to them . Liberia need to follow like Rwanda.

Here's what happened: The corrupt government sold Liberia in a land lease to Firestone. The Liberian government's corrupt, as is the US government who hasn't stopped bad business practices. Effectively, Liberia is a rubber republic, in the model of a banana republic. I know Liberians who are educated in agriculture, but the government has no way to help them start farming. However, any two bit chump from USA or any Asian country can quickly get their hands on large amounts of land. That's why the food imports are so high. The government isn't even trying. They talk about the economy, while a substantial part of the population can't even sign their name on an employment contract. You know what isn't something the politicians talk about? The children that can't afford to go to school. There's an election in 7 days. Most Liberians I know aren't excited about which candidate will win, they're pre-occupied about if things will be peaceful. We've gone over everything from physical safety to food security in the last few weeks. Fear will keep people silent.

As you can see Liberia has an Attorney General, which means that the country is ACTUALLY governed by a western country, perhaps uk or usa. They really make the decisions of Liberia through Frank Musah Dean Jr.

Sadly, the whole issue regarding secondhand clothing is not unique to Liberia, it affect many black countries and it has been going on for decades. Although it makes good money on the small scale, it really comes at a huge determent.

What black ppl can do, is begin small scale industries of many imported products, and prepare for for the 2023 economic melt down next year, you guy may NOT GET ANY RICE so stock up now.

The other aspect of it is, only about 30% of the clothes that arrive in Africa is fit for use, the rest, Africa has to find a way of disposing of it, which is dreadful.

I do not live in Liberia but from what I have observed that type of clothes usually end up in land fills after the sorting out process.@@ericdpeerik3928

I disagreed with your statement that cold-storage investment will have a good ROI when it is implemented in Monrovia. Bong, Nimba, Margibi, Bassa, and the rest of the counties sell these chicken and meat products, thus creating the demand for cold-storage facility

Or you agree that there’s a demand for cold storage because other counties sells these products There’re no big factories that process these products u just mentioned, they’re mostly sold to local marketers in that area and don’t last more then a couple days that’s first , second, transportation, before the good gets to Monrovia, most of them go bad so that’s out of the picture…. No one is producing at the rate by which Liberians in Monrovia need these produce so they’re shipped in in huge containers frozen … And the cold storage becomes one of the only place those who sells these produce gets them

I agree with u It’s rare that u find someone to sincerely run your business whiles you’re away or back in the diaspora There’re still way to successful do that tho , with new business applications, software and systems one can definitely run their business in Liberia while living abroad, not perfect but possible But I definitely understand where u coming from

Highly disappointing wearing used clothes from abroad. You people will never get out of poverty because those clothes have been ritualised.

They buried Aborigines alive with only their heads above the soil, then they would kick the Aborigine head until it was kicked off the body, and proceeded to kick that head around.
