    Brilliant Sir! that was a real treat to watch and very inspiring. In the 50's that's the kind of thing modelmakers did because of lack of resources, glad to see the modelmakers art is still alive and kicking👍👍Well done!

    Fantastic!.. I love the fact it breaks down into smaller components!. One suggestion: Given the HUGE wing area, looks like you could use a bit more horizontal stabilizer and elevator area... You'd likely have better pitch control and more inherent stability. She may not be pretty, but it does what you designed it to do! Great job!

    Shorter story ( damn I shouldve wrote this in a doc) Hey Mikey and friends! Me and my friends built the SportTrainer about five years ago and pounded the shit out of it :) We flew, we crashed, we glued...... we flew...... everybody was so exited that this thing accually took off and accually flew.

    what a great model to teach people to fly r/c models there are to many fast moving foamies about that get crashed early on slow flying is the trick giving plenty of time to react for the beginner. good job mate she flies well, I used to make control line planes out of cardboard and fly little 049 glow engines on them. they were heavy as they had rto be fuel proofed to.

    I actually have 4 big foam plates stowed away and I was thinking about using this on a near-space flight when I'm able to do that. I imagine these wings are creating very good lift compared to any other plane, but also because it's weight. I might need good manoeuvrability because of very little air and this little plane is just right for this purpose. I will send it up with two helium balloons too if you ever wondered about how, I have so many genious ideas, gotta do something soon :)

    That would make a good trainer plane too, you can keep it slow enough to stay out of trouble, it gives the student time to react to their mistakes, and it's cheap to repair.

    Remarkable plane - looks like it wouldn't fly! Bet it would be easy to catch too, or put a couple of skids on? I wouldn't call it ugly, just unusual and handsome in a way. A PDF Plan would be great - sure people would pay! Thanks for a great video, Regards, Dave.

    You're exactly right. I've only just started with RC planes, but have made lots of kites over the years. And that type of shape should give it's best lift at slower speeds, due to having less drag caused by turbulence. What you basically have is an extreme camber wing, with the top and bottom surfaces having almost exactly the same curvature. Did you ever read up on Larwence Hargrave? But with more weight this plane should handle stronger breezes very nicely.

    Ah, now I've realized why I like this particular plane so much. She reminds me of the Blackburn Beverlys that I used to watch as a kid, doing circuits and bumps at Khormaksar air field down in Aden in the 60's. She's not exactly similar, but enough to jog my memory. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nX2Gzrymma_TitY.html&feature=related

  • @MikeysRC
    @MikeysRC13 жыл бұрын

    @RoelandDNL Well basically the plane needed more pilot control input that I was happy with to fly in different flight conditions. And the wings were just a bit too large for the material and the way they were constructed. They had a slight warp to them which made for kinda weird flight characteristics.

  • @MikeysRC
    @MikeysRC12 жыл бұрын

    @bluedogtwo I'm not totally sure. But I think it may create slightly more lift with an open bottom however causes more drag. I did it to save weight and make building easier.

    I dont care what anybody says your plane fly and fly nice and are very east to make if you have glue and foam board,and popsikle sticks,i made 2 so far with ease and my wings arent as long as they say in the specs and they still fly nice n smooth. Cheep is the key with these builds,you can spend as much as you want to but its just fine with cheep china stuff,mine sure are.I got vids if anybody needs proof of how awesome there planes can be.

    2:20 The normal procedure is to glide the plane first, and not use any power until you get the glide you want. Then adjust down-thrust on the prop for good powered flight.

    I'd like to see someone build a park flyer out of garbage taken directly out of trash cans from a typical neighborhood. You obviously won't find the electronics, but you would find all the parts needed for the wings, landing gear, fuselage and so on. If nothing else, the fuselage could be made out of a tube from a used up paper towel roll(s) or cut and joined aluminum coke cans, slid inside one another. Wings could also be finely cut and shaped from the cans as well. Balsa, very thin sheets of plywood and foam plastic laminate sheeting can be found behind picture framers businesses ALL the time...

    Add tapered wingtips for even slower flight and more aerodynamic wing. Just a suggestion. It will help glide ability too.

    Subbed you. This is awesome. My dad used to build these things as a hobby. You should try selling this to the military. It would make a perfect drone. Why fly fast when range is limited? But, stick a TV receiver in a HumV, maybe something that would send vid to a cellphone, and you've got perfect air eyes for an infantry company.

    Very interesting idea to make a slow FPV flyier! Looking forward to see how it does in stronger winds, as a calm day is a rare thing in my area :) What flight times do you get from this with full load? And how much can it take on board and still fly nice? That HD camera looks pretty heavy so that's already impressive! :)
