    very nice and so many kinds of knots one can learn but really ive done just fine all my fishing life with a simple clinch knot or improved clinch knot although i learned to double the line through the eye for the same knots but not sure if it makes a difference but this is basically the same as my last mentioned knot only the way you done it is much easier to double the line through the eye with one pass instead of two since the line is already doubled,i did not realise till i watched the video again to see that this is basically a simple clinch knot only passed twice through the eye, thank you

    My dad and my great great aunt (his fishing mentor and also due to her very long life, one of mine) showed me 3 knots a clinch knot/improved, a Palomar knot and another one that she didn't even give a name to just called it "another real good knot" and they are all I have used for everything for nearly 60 years and the number of times those knots have failed could easily be counted on one hand. I LOVE all of these different knots that are around, but I truly think if you have 2 or 3 that you can tie without fretting over them you'll be fine. She showed me how to snell a hook too but I never can remember how without watching someone do it again.

    @@arlaabrell8658 yup it's good to learn other types but like you said if you know a couple that work good and it is easier to remember them just stick with those, many times i go to make another knot and i can not remember or it is too much of a hassle in the field so i do the old stand by clinch/improved but palomar is one i also like and uni knot is good specially a uni snell knot because you can make that at the end of the line and do not need both ends free like other snell knots

    @@ARCSTREAMS I've never done a vid but it's pretty easy to explain - just put the line through the eye of the hook and tie a simple overhand knot, then tie 3 half hitches one on top of the other, thread the tag end through the bottom hitch , wet the line/knot and start pulling both main and tag end while working the hitches down tight on top of each other with your thumbs until they are tight and snug up to the top of the hook, make sure it's good and tight then cut the tag end. Works best with braid but it works with mono too.

  • @ARCSTREAMS

    @ARCSTREAMS

    @@arlaabrell8658 ok so you need a long enough tag end to make the 3 half hitches and the 3 half hitches are not tightened till you pass the tag end through the first one right? but half hitches are made around objects like the eye ,do you want it to be made on top the over hand using the tag and the main line to make them? still a bit confusing ,if you find a vid on it let me know

    1st, pls excuse my poor English. I'm glad I found this channel, thank you for creating it, I subscribed right away. Awesome upload and a very interesting topic. Fishing knots come in many strange variations and some are simply brilliant, in my humble opinion. I knew this knot from a very early age, I have so many good memories attached to fishing knots knowledge. And ofc. when attaching a swivel at the end of the line some cutting is irrelevant, but when doing things like tying swivels for gummy worms/bait hooks a.s.o on other types of fishing equipment than a rod, learning how to avoid cutting the line was a big thing in my book when I learned it, back then that was...huge:) Thank you for reminding me on some of the little things in life that have brought me so much joy in life. A bunch of thanks and good thoughts coming your way from a grateful guy in Norway.

    Nice to see a short and concise video about knot-tying for once without all the talking. Clear and understandable, good job! However I see a glaring issue with this knot, and that is that you don't lock the knot properly. At first I thought you were going to do what I guess you could call an "improved palomar knot" since you wrapped it several times, but you are missing the important final step in this knot. The "tag end" loop that you get at the top of the knot should not be cut off, instead you should thread the hook/swivel/lure through that loop, and then tighten down the knot. This removes the need to cut it of since it tightens down with the other coils of line, as well as it LOCKS the knot, making it tremendously less likely for the knot to slip. Since you are not doing that, with enough pull (and strong enough line) I'd guess the knot would eventually fail. Just some friendly, constructive criticism, have a nice day.

    The number of knot videos is mind boggling....back in the day...I tied 2 knots the fisherman's for my hook & polymer for swivels....of course that was when mono was our go to line for everything related to fishing....lol. With braid and fluorocarbon....man...its nuts....now!! Doing some salmon fishing the other day...I had to use 3 knots from main to swivel to tippet( fluorocarbon) to my tiny # 8 gammy hook. Most of these knots look simple enough....because videos providers use 8/0 hooks with 50lb or 100lb braid onto a 30-40lb leader ....some of the more technical knots are difficult using finer/thinner limp lines...especially as I mentioned above fall stream fishing...I don't want to spend 15 mins when the bite is on...if I lose a rig...lol.

    For quality comparison, a tensile test of weight applied is required to show a knot is of sufficient quality. Lots of ways to make knots. Many knots are tied accidentally. This knot may be very good, but cutting the loop when it could have been passed over the hook or swivel when tightening like a Palomar seems to be a "missed opportunity". I will try it under tension, but I'm not impressed.

    There are times you can't use a Palomar knot. I use it as much as possible, but when I'm running a main line with a barrel swivel followed by a fluorocarbon leader to my bait, that knot from the swivel to the leader cannot be done with the Palomar knot unless you can run your rod and reel through the last loop, which is impossible. In those cases I usually go with the uni-knot or double uni-knot if it's 4 or 6lb line.

    I judge a knot on how easy it is to tie with cold wet fingers while in your boat, bobbing up and down in the waves. This knot is quite good but there are simpler knots thst are just as effective.

    Couldn't resist a comment. It's like the Snelling methods you see on yt, all wrong in that they claim theirs is the strongest and fastest. My buddy and I discovered a way, going out for cod from Pt. Pleasant, NJ. one day in Feb. 78'. The same way you hand whip the thread on the head of a fly.

    "Polymer Knot" is one of the only knots that you can use with some types of line, as other more traditional knots slip out. Fast and easy. Super strong.

    If I'm not mistaken , Chris, the correct name of the knot you mentioned is "Palomar", not Polymer. Just thought I'd mention that since someone reading your post might try to research it, and fail to find it due to the spelling. I use that knot almost exclusively on all kinds and weights of line. I have never had one fail.
