Not yet, at least. We can still detect it very easily with software. It might cause people to make software to modify real videos to be detected as deepfakes, which gives them plausible deniability, though.

Deep fake aside, the impression is pretty good. He looks like he’s on coke at every given moment which is how I imagine the real Tom Cruise is.

The actual beginning studies of engineering more lifelike facial configuration was in the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons. As well from that came higher details to cg animals and realism within hair and fur in ways the motion capture seamlessly can bring ever more lifelike details to the screen

I worked with a guy several years ago that could be Tom Cruise’ twin. Absolutely with no doubt.

To everyone saying, "yeah I can still see it's fake" - The technology's not perfect - yet. Give it 2 or 3 years and there will be practically no way to tell anymore whether it's fake or real. This technology's going to change cinema. They can create a virtual personality (I know they have already done that) and they can become a star. We won't be able to tell the difference

I thought it was an actual clip of him at first -- you can see the digital elements after watching it a while but the face and the eyes are so convincing --that is what was the hardest thing to do in computer graphics. The eyes. And realistic mouth movements. And now you can get a computer to do it, in your own home. And de-age someone. If you had someone who can mime the performer, and get HD level detail, and DeepFake the voice as well, it could be a very convincing fake if people are able to refine it manually.

I wouldn’t have been able to tell this guy wasn’t really Tom Cruise. That’s crazy scary how dead on he is right down to his gesturing and how he changes the tone of his voice like that.

Crazy this was two years ago. Imagine how much better the tech is now.

He's a really good impersonator. Love the acting, the mannerism and that weird laugh

it's not a real person. that's what deep fake means. maybe it was mapped from a person. but once you have the map in the computer, you can make mannerisms that the 'actor' never did. you can put in sound effects. it's made up. made with part truth and part lies.

@@Kungfukittykat23 It's still from a real person. Besides, making mannerisms that aren't based on anything other than the base model (i.e. a real person in the video) is gonna be much more complicated.

Voice-wise it sounds like the Miles Fisher impressions from Superhero Movie.

I don't trust anything in my life, I think I could be the only living human and everything else is deepfake. My whole life a cruel lie created by a higher intelligent civilization.

The transitions are clearly visible especially after he says movie star

It's so creepy. It messes with your mind one minute you can see the fake part but right when you see it, it comes back. It like a weird morphing.

It's getting harder and harder for people to discern reality from fiction! This is creepy and impressive.

In less that one year I've gone from saying 'that's fake' to 'that's not fake'.

This is honestly terrifying

Its gonna be hard to use video evidence for anything anymore once this kinda stuff becomes more accessible

It also helps that the guy behind this deepfake is also handsome on his own right and has encompassing features, so the software doesn't have to fight reality too much.

I actually thought it was Tom Cruise for a second.. this AI and deepfakes are so scary and dangerous. The laughing face is so damn accurate.

If the actor didnt ham it up, it would be more realistic.

Amazing quality deepfake. You leaned real hard into the creepy Tom Cruise on/off laugh and smile. One give away I noticed was the body shape when playing golf. It looked a bit younger and slimmer than the real Tom Cruise. The voice was very well done, if I didn't know it was an impression I could have been fooled.

What about playing Tom himself when trying to have him in movies? For example, him agreeing to do certain scenes and then directors using this tech to do scenes that he rejected. How in the world would he prove that they played him? I don't think they'll be able to make an entire movie without him, though. Too obvious. The voice, however, is really easy to integrate into the film with audio tech by contructing sentences from his past films or interviews or speeches.

They mimicked his iconic laugh too. This is scary 🤯🤯🤯🤯.
