Very quick and easy Resin Trinket Dish (learn how you too can mould resin into shape)
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is a quick and easy tutorial on how to mould a resin trinket dish. For this project, I first began by pouring the coloured resin on to baking paper, which had been placed on an upside-down serving tray. If you don't have a serving tray, a plate will do. I then added acrylic diamonds to the outer edge of the resin, to give it some added interest and texture. It was then left to cure for a couple of hours, your resin is cured enough when you can touch it and it is still very bendy. Resin curing times will vary from brand to brand, so check on yours every half hour.
Tip - Pour a small amount on a separate sheet of baking paper, you can test this piece without touching your curing piece.
Next, the resin was transferred to the oval plastic dish (a round dish will also do), I left the baking paper on at this stage because it wasn't ready for removal. I removed the baking paper after the resin had been curing for about 4 hours (again, this time will vary depending on your brand of resin). It was then placed back into the plastic dish and left to cure overnight. You can use a little bit of heat to warm the resin in order to bend it into the dish.
Once cured, you have a fabulous resin trinket dish.

I can't comment on all brands of resin, because not all are created equally. I recommend that all of my pieces are to be used as decoration only and not to be used for food. These pieces look good on their own and so don't need to have a specific purpose, other than to be used as a decorative piece.

I Love them Sue. Did you use a quick dry resin ? Also turpentine doesn't interfere with the curing?

No, I didn’t use a quick drying resin. We have had very warm weather so my resin cures more quickly at this time of year. In winter it takes much longer.

Turpentine doesn’t interfere with the curing process as it evaporates and leaves no residue on the resin.

Hey sue I clicked on the link you provided for the crystals and they come I a bag of different sizes, what size do you best prefer? And out of curiosity which do you prefer better, mica or inks? And which company is your favorite (to color your resin). Just thought I'd pick your brain. I've just gotten some resin but no inks or mica yet so I thought I'd see what you like best.
@SueFindlay
5 жыл бұрын
The acrylic diamonds I actually use are in multiple sizes. I don't have a particular preference over mica powders or inks. Each one has its own advantages, it depends on what you want to achieve. I use inks for a translucent look and pigments for an opaque finish. It all comes down to personal preference 😉
