I’ve just moved to English Literature A-Level this week and I’m so behind! If anyone has any tips, they would be greatly appreciated (I’m trying to catch up on the Great Gatsby and Othello for AQA if that helps) xx

I do Othello for AQA and my tips are to look back at your teacher’s slides (if they’ve put them online) and annotate parts of the text that are important. Also try and learn as much of the context as you can because you’ll understand the text a lot more. I’ve also started watching university lectures and making notes on them as revision (Oxford and Harvard have good ones that are understandable). And to remember the plot I’ll watch performances of the play/plays on youtube (I’m a more visual learner) :) Lastly, practice writing essays and learning their structure (something I still need to work on). It’s all pretty easy once you do that. Hope this helps :)

I’m in second year uni and done my a levels last year English lit was difficult but tips I would say is; keep on top of the readings we were often given chapters to read for homework so make sure you do those and annotate the books as you go along. I personally found watching the films of the books we were doing (I done othello and gatsby in year 12) as watching the films helped me understand them more. Lots of practice essays and begging your teachers to mark them. Hope that helps x

Lectures are usually with your whole cohort and are just a lecturer talking at you for an hour or two. You take notes and stuff but that's sort of it. Seminars are more like classes from school, but are about the topics covered in lectures. You do pre-reading and then discuss things. I'm not sure what a tutorial is for Eve but a tutorial for me is something like a small meeting with a personal tutor to help you with any academic things you need help with. I also have practicals where we do something like an experiment or work with a statistics programme. I'm at KCL studying psychology though so tutorials/practicals may be different in Eve's context
