German animation at that time was state of the art. Comparing Disney, et al there is no comparison. This is in a class of its own.

Uhhh you do realize SNOW WHITE was released in the late 1930s and was in a league of it's own. That movie is what brought Disney to the forefront of animation.

Being created in Nazi-Germany doesn't discredit an work of art as such. Is there any open or subtle propaganda noticeable? I can't see any. It's an amazing work. See 0:35 the camera going through the flowers, or 2:08 the rotation around the phonograph. Wow, looks like today's 3d animation in it's rigor, but being hand-made makes it feel so warm and soft unlike today's computer-made anims which, to me, often feel quite cold and robotic, the way our societies seem to have decided to go as a whole. I hope there's a well-preserved copy in an archive anywhere to have it digitally remastered once.

@Horst Drexer : Er hatte es ja erwähnt - es hat NICHTS mit "Nazi" zu tun, obwohl der Ära entstammt. Er hat es als ein Kunstwerk der damaligen Zeit angepriesen und dass es mit Propaganda nichts zu tun hat. Dieses kleine Filmchen ist ein Kleinod deutscher Trickfilmkunst, die leider nach 1945 in weiten Teilen verschwand.

@Joël Jason: It is indeed a beautiful piece of art and a testament to German animation skills prior to 1945. It's sad, that a lot of that was lost after WWII. And there is no propaganda in it whatsoever, it is merely an unpolitical work to be enjoyed by everyone.

The entire cartoon is propaganda. The bee represents HITLER and the music is being used to soothe the masses into believing Germany is still winning the war. Look at how all the critters (symbolic for Hitler's henchmen) go out of their way to support the bee (symbolic for Hitler) too keep playing the music (symbolic for propaganda) no matter what happens. All the hiccups in the playing is the war taking it's toll

2:08 Perfect rotation technique, many animators had difficulties with this considering that at the time there was no computer graphics

Me sorprende que no tenga ninguna propaganda por parte del señor de bigote chistoso. Quien diría que de algo tan sombrío y sangriento saldría algo tan hermoso y bien trabajado. das ist so heftiger scheiß, das sieht aus wie computer animiert - erinnert an die schöne und das biest - aber ich glaub kaum dass der zuse zu der Zeit soweit war =P

Qué técnica usa? Me da la sensación que utiliza la cámara multiplano y la captura de movimiento, pero la multiplano no funciona en 360°, esto parece distinto. Bambi con la cámara multiplano se estrena en 1942, y si este corto es del 43 entonces Hans tuvo unos meses para construir algo que iguale la cámara multiplano.

Probablemente modelos en tres dimensiones calcados, al menos en parte. Disney usó algo similar en ciertas porciones de Bambi (por ejemplo, los cuernos del ciervo adulto, imposibles de animar de otra manera), combinados con animación tradicional.

The bee was a female the whole time. Male bees don't have stingers.
