I can’t stand how folks hear “Ringsend the Compton of Europe” and think they’re being totally serious. It’s not quite taking the piss, since as artists Versatile are artists first and foremost. You wouldn’t call Guy Ritchie’s earlier films pisstakes if the crime genre. But Versatile ARE silly, they ARE ridiculous, and they are over the top. And that’s what makes them so much fun and entertaining. This video especially honestly brings so many smiles to my face. It’s like they pulled an Edgar Wright when he wrote ‘Hot Fuzz’, watched every last action movie to make sure he included every cliché known to man, except these lads watched every West Coast Rapper’s video from the 90s and emulated each one, including Kenan and Kel. Even down to the camera angle where Eskimo says “They want the young bull.” absolutely brilliant.
