Vermont Bikepacking - The Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail (Part 2)

Спорт

s it worth driving almost to the Canadian Border just to ride your gravel bike on unpaved rail trails? Can you make a multi-day trip out of it? The recently completed Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is the longest single trail in New England. If you combine it with the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail, you have a destination for sure. In this episode we cover The eastern half of the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail.

Living here I learned fenders can be your friend. Outstanding video and well documented. Take care, Al

Al, we discussed fenders that day and then we realized that our bikepacking bags and gear were our fenders. On this trip we stayed at the same campground for multiple nights so our “gear fenders” were at camp. I have a new bike and a rear rack that will be with me providing a rear fender. I think I’ll look into a front fender for our September trip on the C&O canal. It can be quite muddy if it rains. Thanks for watching!

State parks are the best. Even when my wife and I are in our class C I still love camping in the state and national parks over fancy resorts. Thank for watching @rventures1021

Lovely times to get out for a ride. Don't mind the rain as long as I can keep my feet dry and stay warm. Otis doesn't want to stay in for nothing! lol You've got to get Canada in there!! Still would like to get a fat-tire e-bike one day. Wonderful day!

Bruce and Otis, let me know if you have any 100km rail trails up there. I’m always looking for an excuse to travel to Canada!🇨🇦

This looked like such a great trail to ride because of all the museums, and historic sites and places to stop and eat along the way. You all had a bit of crazy weather how it would rain, then you'd see blue sky again. Looks like you got a bit muddy of the backs of your jackets - but looks like it was worth it for the beautiful scenery.

Yes there was another one we went to in the next part and a 2nd railroad museum we missed on the last day. We made the best of the weather. It was terrific spending time with my friends. I’m looking forward to our next big trip from DC to Pittsburgh. Thanks for watching!

You had a bit of everything on this ride. I could see how you would feel lighter and lighter and faster as you go and lose the extra weight thats gotta be great! Dont worry about answering my railroad question we can find old yards like these easily. These towns were so neat! Great you could find nice places to get a bite and a drink. Wow you were really dodging rain on this trip those were some dark clouds. Beer and cider great way to end! Some of that trail was great but riding in that grass had to be difficult! Overall looked like a fun adventure thanks for sharing!

I have always loved exploring! Even as a kid I would pull out the map and tell my dad what roads to take. My grandfather had a model railroad and used to love running his trains. So it was only natural that I would love exploring old railroad right of ways. I thought the ramblers would appreciate my beverage choice. Thanks for watching!

Good job as always John. As info, I used to get Vermont Life Magazine, and recall an article about this rail-trail I'll try to find it and send you the link for the download. Appreciate your fine channel with its excellent filming, narration (the best I've heard), and production. God Bless!

Ken, In some ways it easier to film when I ride with freinds. However I have been putting in a lot of time on the script, narration and editing. I have been working on a Quinebaug video. Have you ever hiked that one? Take Care!

@@OutdoorsWithJohnUSA I have not hiked the Quinebaug Trail - looking forward to seeing your video. Yes - your preparation for narration is very evident. For me, that is one reason your hiking videos are so much better than others. Keep up the great work!

Wayne, I have fenders for my mountain and fat tire bikes, but this was a bikepacking trip. Our seat bags act as a fender, but since we were operating out of a base camp our bags were left at camp. We actually discussed trying to bring fenders but we couldn’t attach them with the seat bags. I’m considering a rear rack, that way it acts as a rear fender with or without the rear bag. Thanks for the comment.

Pretty cool to ride up to the border. If you had a passport would they have let you ride on through?
