The cat loves ham radio, especially the "ham" part of it. 😀

Does the 909 have a stereo or mono input jack for the external antenna? I see the AN-48X has a TRS stereo plug which might be causing some of the issues. Try swapping with a mono cable and let us know. I use a mono TS cable between my amplified antenna and DX-390 and it works well.

Hello. Which antenna is better to invest in for the pl-660. An-48x or an-100?

would it work to buy a cheap rabbit ears with spade connectors and use an alligator clip on the rabbit ear? The C Crane shortwave Reel Antenna comes with the alligator clip.

I suggest the use of some Common Mode Choke Ferrites on the long down lead.

I can not confirm, that the frequency knob is something like an on/off switch. I also have the same device, also with a D808. My frequency knob indeed alter the frequency, something like fine tuning while the other cahnges the level of the signal. I think, the long wire is good for the ones who sits in front of a computer where the computer does disturb the signal from the antenna of the radio too much.

I have order a AN 48x loop and asking you if there is any kind of difference if you connect it to whipantenna or the ordinary antenna socket? I read that if you connect it to the whip you have to connect a groundwire!? Am I right? Thanks in advance/Ole in Sweden

That is correct, the instructions tell you how to make a ground wire. I'm going to try than next, there is a ground post built into the patio deck outside my radio room I'm going to try next, just got mi antenna 2 days ago. As mentioned, so far seems to be pretty useless for SW bands.

You could also try a horizontal loop if you've got the space for one, those will also work decently even several bands above the one they were designed for

Purchased mine on Ebay. but there are some on Amazon, as long as you do not pay more than $40 - $50 they are all the same thing

Just bought a Realistic DX-160 which has screw terminals for the antenna input so I'm looking for an adapter that is female 3.65mm to dual spade connector. Having lots of trouble finding it.

It costs an outrageous £40 in the UK.

MLA 30 is a much better antenna

DARN! The Tecsun AN-48X antenna uses standard AA batteries. The SW upgrade, MLA 30, needs at least five volts DC. This means a connection to a car battery or to an AC adapter of some sort which is no good for preppers without solar power in a grid down situation.

@Anung Un Rama About a year ago, I purchased a DC to DC Buck Boost Converter Variable Voltage Regulator and two 9 Amp Hour Rechargeable Lithium batteries. I guess you could call that a large "battery pack".

Sorry, but you don't quite understand how this antenna works. For example, try using RTL-SDR and Upconverter to see the behavior of the antenna. I agree that it works very well for medium and long waves, but even for short waves it is great. Unfortunately, there is a lot of interference in the city. I modified the concept of this antenna and I don't have the option to adjust the gain, I used resistors and the gain is stable at maximum (it's hard to get a 440 ohm potentiometer). :) But at home I tune a bit out of resonance so that I don't have so much noise. It's mainly about feeling and sound, not signal strength. By the way, for the money ?? :)

Were you turning the wrong wheel when you were tuning? Because the other wheel is labelled as 'Tuning'.

no it's better .. the 31ms is nothing more than a wire antenna ... this one actually has some parts where it is ok .. but ..at the price.. MLA 30 is a better choice

The Antenna only seems work with receivers from Tecsun. So i find it not good. A Nordmende Galaxy MESA 7000 does not get more station. But there is a solution: Change the cables and use Coax cables. Than it works also with the Nordmende and other receivers, But the video is good

Very similar to Degen DE31s.

The antenna probably should be mounted on a pole that can be rotated, maybe a TV antenna rotator can be used.

for shortwave loop rotation is not necessary, you position it with lowest noise possible and leave it like that, it's just a bad antenna

Yeah this antenna is for the most part not going to work as well as most fishing line wire antennas

Great honest review. I really hope you don't become a ham. There are many ham channels already, but you're the only SW listener I follow.

No worries even if I get my ham license, I will continue my dedication to the Shortwave radio hobby

I don't like it, I have a 16 foot long wire antenna that mops the floor with it costing me only 10 euro, but hey your one seems to pick up cats :D
